Having mostly gotten over wrenching on my own bikes and cars, I have turned my 2006 XB12X over to a independent mechanic who works on Harley's and has a crazy infinity for XBs. Very reasonable rates.
Anyway, we are doing some work on the bike and there is some very minor weeping of the rear base gasket. We have the engine tilted down and the mechanic says it is just another 3 hours to do those gaskets, hone the cylinders, and re-ring the pistons. That boils down to $150 plus parts.
Bike is 2006 MY with 41k on the clock.
Opinions?

If everything else is good, no reason to not do all the above while you are in there.
If the pistons and cylinders are good, a rering is the prudent thing to do.
However, scope creep is a real danger. "Hmm, maybe I should do a quick valve job too, etc... etc.." |

Make sure he knows these are nicisil plated cylinders before he tries to hone. |
