i just picked up another 2000 cyclone with 13k miles after missing the one i sold. i just happened to notice the swing arm isolators look pretty messed up. im just wondering is it dangerous to ride it this way for the rest of the season before i fix it?

Those really need to be replaced. The are the old style isolator, the new style is a lot tougher. Make sure to check your front iso, the torn rears have put a lot of strain on the front. |

well i took them out and the job wasn't bad at all using the Scott free method. I'm really on a budget and wasn't ready to dish out $200 on isolators from American sport bike. after reading an older thread here i found the part number of the original was a Harley fxr or flt part so i ordered those off eBay for $40 for the pair and also a new front one for $20. i really wanted the upgraded ones but not in the budget right now. |

First you are an American, and you are free. With that said, I have had an 02 cyclone for a few years the 2nd yr I had it I put 30k on it. I bought it while I was in California, I broke the newer/updated front motor mount going up a fire service road in Lake Elsinore, on the north side of Ortega hwy. Moved to Tx, and broke both UPDATED rear isolators. I am familiar with the older ones, I am VERY familiar with the newer updated ones. I have/do business with Al at American Sportbike, and other places. He and others here have been more then helpful. Anyway part failure is a bitch and what you put in your bike is yes less expensive but, there is a reason why they updated that part/parts. In the event of failure, that one is life, I broke the rear avoiding a wild boar on the twisted sisters near San Antonio/Hillcountry 280+miles from home. I don't actually know of of one personally but I have heard of them actually failing while cruising, creating a pogoing type effect with the motor. Your riding may be more reasonable, but with the shaking that bike does, I wouldn't skip on mounts or isolators. Just my 2 cents for what its worth, as they DO BREAK. Ride hard right often Sluginxlt! |
