What happened to Cory? Cory decided not to continue competing in China. I believe they offered some money, but I don't know how much. The first time he went for free and all you win is a trophy, but at that time he was on the EBR payroll. It is a long trip to China and he does not really care for the place and the food. IMO someone of Cory's caliber as a racer should receive several thousand dollars plus expenses to go race there. Right now he is hanging out in Arkansas and waiting to see what might develop for next year. |

race for free or sit around and do nothing.... Maybe he has some job prospects and figured it'd be better to be able to go to an interview rather than be 1/2 way around the world when a call came. |

Like someone needs an excuse to not do pro-bono work all the way over in China! |

I get it. There are places that a person needs a lot of incentive to go. I learned that by going without the incentive. Besides, I figure that Cory is working on some things over here. |

First unlike most here Cory is a professional rider not an amateur. As such his decision to race are business decisions and have to be made in that context with factors that you may not be privy to. BTW he does have a job as an instructor at Colin Edwards boot camp. Colin is in the process of expanding to have a roadrace school and Cory will likely be the lead instructor for that. |

Just curious, what was Cory doing before he started working at EBR? |

Before roadrace he dirt tracked and won several amateur regional championships and the AMA Nationa Short track championship. Cory raced for several teams befor he went to work for EBR. He first started road racing in Aprilia Cup on my Aprilia 250 after turning expert after just one weekend as a provisional novice. Finishing 6 th in his first race and later 3rd at Daytona setting the Aprilia Cup lap record which still stands. Then a couple years as privateer in AMA Formula 2 followed by a year riding for a team in Formula USA grand national series both roadrace and flat track finishing 5th in the championship. Then a year in Spain in 600 Supersport on a ride arranged by Kenny Roberts. Then back in AMA Superbike as privateer became 2004 Rookie of the year. After that he rode 600 for Team Hunter, M4 Suzuki and Veshra. He rode both AMA and WERA National events. Won 3 WERA National Championships. Also 2 be in Daytona 200 in 2011. So he has pretty well paid his dues to call himself a professional rider. |

Actually I traveled with Erik Buell 5 or 6 years ago to watch Cory and for Erik to visit with Cory and his father. Cory is a top level professional rider but he also has a high level of presence and polish. I recall Erik being very impressed. Cory is the type of fellow. You can't help but like and I really enjoy watching him and celebrating his accomplishments. |

"Cory is the type of fellow. You can't help but like and I really enjoy watching him and celebrating his accomplishments." I feel very fortunate to have known Cory all his life and been a small part of his successes and he has always been "that type of fellow" and mature way beyond his years when he was a young kid. Daytona 2011 I don't know who is happier me or him.
