Hello Fellow Thumpers. I wanted to post on here to let others know of an issue that could possibly help others if they loose a spark. Background first... 2000 blast... I am the 3rd owner.. ran fine for years and one day coming home from work... NOTHING. It shuts off going up a big hill. It acted like it wanted to start.. but just no spark. I called a rescue truck in (friend with a truck and ramp lol) and parked it in the garage. A little while later I had the chance of buying an HD Ironhead (which I jumped on) and let the blast sit for 5 years. (yes... 5 years... its sad) Recently a friend has shown interest in buying it off of me.. well, it needs to run. So, up on the table lift it goes. New coil pack...new plug, new wire.. nothing. check ignition module led... its perfect. I perform some continuity tests on the wires thinking I had a broken one... but everything is good. Now Im stumped. I start to mess around with the plug for the coil pack... and all of the sudden I have a neon light on my inline spark tester. Apparently the 3 wire plug going into the coil pack can vibrate so much that the actual pins in the plug can spread apart. Until you actually go and press those pins back together the signal to the pack from the ignition to send a spark will not happen. (or it will be sporadic) Now that the repair (as easy as it was) is done, the bike is running better than ever... and I have a brand new coil pack if I ever need one. One problem though... now that its working again... I think I want to keep it and not sell it. |
