Early last year my Buell ate a camshaft and lifter. As predicted then by a forum member then, the same has happened again, only a more catastrophic failure has occurred; this time spinning the cam bushing in the crankcase, leading to the cam and lifter dying again. The damage is isolated to those components, but it's likely the bike will be down for some time as the top end needs freshening, the chassis needs some work, and the crankcase needs repair or replacement. It's a real bummer but I knew this day would come...I was just hoping it'd make it through the year! The wife and I work on different schedules in different parts of town and we're fairly broke at the moment so life just got a bit more interesting for us having only one vehicle. She's not happy. My baby is down. We have no monies. So is life. |

Well that sucks, can you put a link to the thread that details the problem you had? |

Sucks - but I watched your vid and that's one badass bike! You'll get it back on the road. |

The above isn't the original thread, but that's the story. I'll be seeing how the top end looks shortly. It's been burning oil as well... |

Sorry about your luck. Maybe you can find a small commuter bike until your finances change. It would definitely help with your commute situation. I read your profile, sounds like you have a great attitude, I love the bike, don't let it die! |

Thanks guys. The bike did ~50k hard miles with an unforgiving rider since the last rebuild. Can't ask much more than that. I've gotta get to the bottom of the failure. Hopefully it's just the bushing(s) at the root. Everything else looks fine. The crankcase needs some work but the rest should be simple. I almost got an 1125CR but the wife says she'd like me to keep this one on the road. There were a lot of ideas, but I love fun, simple bikes so I got this one: There's a handful of parts and supermoto conversion wheels/brakes coming for it. The fam wanted me to get a DRZ400SM, but even though they make the same power, I like a lumpier delivery. |

It will sit in wait until I can afford the parts and crankcase repair. |
