Hi there.. hope this is in the right thread area... Ok... so a few years ago I was riding my blast home from work and it died going up a very steep hill.. I tried to start it and no avail... it turned the engine and starter... but no spark. I proceeded to figure it was a ignition coil and purchased one from Chicago HD (I am in PA) I tried it on the bike and no go... Then, an opportunity came up to purchase a Ironhead HD from a coworker and I jumped on it. So the buell has been sitting in my garage for a few years.. Now I have a friend interested in buying the bike and it has lit a fire under my $%^ to get it running. I put it up on my table lift and started to really get into the nitty gritty... I whipped out the repair manual and started diagnosis... coil is getting voltage... but no spark... I took the brand new coil and installed it... nothing... I pulled the points cover to see if I am getting a red light... and I am. Blinking steady when trying to start the bike. I then proceeded to mess with the spark wire and swapped it out for one off of my ironhead. I pulled the spark plug and rigged the whole thing up so that it fires outside of the cylinder to see if I was getting a spark.. (this part was the back story... I am now at the point where I am getting a spark... SOMETIMES.... but not all the time. I am dealing with a almost dead battery that I charge... then try... then charge... then try etc. Anybody have an idea on what may be going on here? I do not know if I have an ignition module problem or not.. (Thinking not because it does blink and is not random) I am best guessing here but I think the wire needs to be replaced (plug also) and then a fully charged battery. Anybody ever had problems with the wire plug going to the coil? (one wire seems a little loose to me) Thanks |

a 2000 - ignition is always a good guess, but first disable all the safeties, make sure plug and wire is good and test that coil is good, make sure Das Boot is new - if all that is done and still have issues - ignition - in all probability. EZ |

Concur!! What might be a regular spark, might only be firing every other or every 3rd compression stroke!! |
