Question for experts and tuners. I have a 2008 1125r. I bought it completely stock, except po. installed Race ecm. The bike ran ok, but not great. It had some surging and flat spots in the 2000-4000 rpm range. I installed K&N, new plugs, velocity stacks and modified the stock muffler by making tail piece larger. Now the bike is a rocket, but it still has the surging issue. The flat spot is gone and only surges under no load. Just cruising around town its annoying. Once you open the throttle more or just increase rpm it goes away. I called EBR and they informed me that it had a map which covers the filter change but didn't know if it would work with the modded can. Is there a better map for my issue or should I just live with it. Thanks for the help. |

With a custom setup like yours, you are not likely to find a pre-made map that works, you will want to get a custom tune. Twin Motorcycles and Xopti can do it http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/ http://xoptiinside.com/ You might even be able to get away with them helping you retune just the range you are having issues with. It will never go away. You can make it a little better by making the mixture very fat in that speed range, but the mechanical internals and cam timing causes the problem. Only you can determine if you can live with the surging. Personally, I cannot, but really fixing the fault is expensive.......your call. |

I had the same issue with my carburated bike and it took 2 years of dicking with it and a couple of hundred to get it rite. I was hoping fuel injected would be easier. o well. it's a keeper. thanks for the info. |

So I re-installed the stock filter and it runs smother. So,,,I believe it is running too lean with the K&N. It should just need more fuel in that area. Correct? |

For what it's worth...you can make it go away. I run an EBR race ecm with HMF pipe that I got from them. The ecm is tuned for that pipe and my surge was gone the second I went with that set up. The last flash from Harley for the stock ecm was supposed to be really good as well. |

V stacks also give you a boost in one area. Rather it's low end, mid, or top you need to tune to get the max out of your desicion to use v stacks. That could be a part of the problem. Stock, xopti, and even my own tinkering never worked as good and smooth as the ebr and rt3 combo. |

Thanks for the advise. It's exhaust time I think. I have another opportunity rite now and might jump on it. |
