Hey guys, I am new to this forum. I have a 1997 S3T. The rear brembo brake will lock up on me and not return to normal state. Seems Like the fluid is only being forced one way obviously. Does anybody know if this brake caliper can be swapped out for a different year tube frame older or newer? Or one of the xb rear calipers will fit? Having trouble finding a replacement brembo for the 97 s3t. Let me know what y’all think. Thanks for the add as well. |

It sounds as if the fluid 'return hole' in the master cylinder is clogged. Have you drained and flushed the brake fluid? Sometimes a tiny bit of debris can make its way to this hole, it is generally smaller than the hole that leads to the brake line to the caliper cylinders. Perhaps back-flushing the brake line will unclog it. I don't have specific knowledge of you bike's system, just general knowledge about how hydraulic brakes work. |

I can’t remember if the S3T has the brake plunger come in from the bottom or not. On both my XB and 1125, I had to pull apart the the entire assembly as condensation mixed with a little brake fluid would cause the plunger to rust up and not retract properly. While the body of the MC is made of Al, the plunger, spring, and a washer are steel and all the rust buildup causes stiction and ultimately a lock up. I’d pull it apart if you’re able, in my case I sanded everything well and put some dielectric grease on everything upon reassembly. Haven’t had an issue on either bike since. It’s a pretty easy job and free! |
