OFF WITH IT'S HEAD!!!!!!

Seriously I love Toothless and really hate the shifter. Always searching for it and stepping on the entire arm. So I decided to do something about it. I put a post out in Parts Wanted and Mcelhaney14 responded with a great offer for a used shifter arm (Thanks Bill).

So I cut off the shifter nub

Then I filed the excess down

Drifted a punch mark for drilling

And drilled it out (I know it is not centered, I did my best)

Then I used a 5/16" 24 thread tap

The "new" old Harley peg fits but there was too much thread beyond the arm

So I cut off the excess and tapped the threads clean and it's perfect

Here are the results, before and after

Looks Great.
Two Pointers
- Don't forget Lock tight (or drill and tap and add a set screw to hold it in)
- WEAR SHOES IN THE SHOP, Hot fillings hurt DAMHIK

Tq,

Red Loctite #271 used, forgot to mention it in the write up. And safety glasses too but I got lazy.

Got to do some riding last weekend and it works great. Did not have to adjust the arm, my boot fit well and no searching to shift. Well spent time and money.

I've got the same fix on my 01 S3T. I must have done that about 8 years ago.
