Powdercoating cases and cam covers is not a good idea anyway. The heat can weaken the pressure holding the cam bushings, and in many cases they fall out in the oven. |

Yeah, I think you'd have to strip the cases down to powdercoat. Cooking seals, bearings and bushings was part of the reason I went with the paint. |

I had my cam cover powder coated with no issues. Just replaced the rotor cup seal. |

I had heard that the heat can cause cam bushings to fall out, had mine powder-coated anyway....and no issues, I just told the guy doing the work to be careful and bake the part in a position that if the heat did loosen the bushings they would stay in the correct place instead off fall onto the floor... no issues, maybe I got lucky? Of course the guy did a crappy job so at some point I may have to have it redone. if you are looking for an outstanding powder-coating place I can recommend Final touch Powdercoating, owned by an ex military guy who truly supports the military!! http://www.finaltouchpowdercoating.com/ They did some work for me that I did not think they would be able to do, mailed it in anyway after talking to Roger just to see what he thought he could do, we discussed the complexity of it and I decided to go for it, extremely finely detailed, and they nailed it perfectly!! I will be sending in my next cam cover to him for sure. I am done with all but the most basic shape powder-coating with the local "chop-shop" I have been using..... |

There's a local shop I am probably going to use. Been around for a number of years, recommended by several MC shops in the area, and I won't have to pay shipping. I am going to ship my aluminum parts off to have them anodized. They are small and light enough that it won't kill me. Gotta ship off my heads, intake and cam cover this week. Hope to pick up the transmission today. |

Thank you sir! I don't know that I'll achieve S1owner's level of sweetness, but I'm hoping I get close. This is the first time I've attempted a project this ambitious. |

Well I hope you did your research painting these tanks is very complicated and they need to sit and cure a long time. Otherwise it will bubble |

Ft - looks great! it's not necessarily a cure issue, I mean if you don't let it dry it will have issues, but that will happen on any material. The issue that needs to be watched for is to not put the primer on too thick…don't try to fill any scratches with spot putty or bondo either… |

I supplied my painter with the OEM instructions for painting these tanks. We'll see what happens. |

Ken, what would you say is a "long time"? 4-5 months do the trick? |

I am no expert I just know that these tanks breathe and they are tricky some have let the paint cure for months but others have not. One piece of advise when you try to put your cap back on it will not fit because it will have shrunk. Put fuel in it sit it in the sun for an hour and it will expand back to size. |

Interesting. Hadn't considered that. Thanks for the heads up! Also planning to use Hylomar to provide a seal. |

Tank is wet sanded and being sprayed this week (I hope). Awaiting new forks and triples to send everything to the powdercoater. Aluminum bits sent to the anodizer. |

Got the parts back from the anodizer. Given the rough shape they were in when I sent them up, they came out surprisingly well.

Nice contrast on the motor with the black & aluminum Don't remember that you have to do the shifter pawl adjustment until you have it all buttoned up like I did (Message edited by k12pilot on April 16, 2015) |
