Hey all- just a quick thanks for all the help you have unwittingly given me! First commute on two wheels since about '92 today. Not perfect but I'm well on my way to some answers. A bit of popping and surging on the 2nd half of a 20mi trip to work at 4:30 this morning. Tightened headers, replaced a missing intake bolt and added .010 to the plug gap (.035 now) The trip home was about the same although I did notice the idle was pushing 1800 while stopped by a traffic flagger on the highway. Actually popped and died about 2mi from home but fired right back up. I pulled codes 15 and 23. When I got rid of the airbox (I want to see that engine) I stuffed the IAT sensor up under the tank...perhaps a bad call. The other code is for the front injector. I'll ohm it tomorrow. Next on the agenda will be suspension. NO oil in rear shock and oil steadily leaking from a frint fork. Good thing I enjoy working on stuff like this! Thanks all |

Yeah that sensor has to have its nose in what the bike is breathing. Error code 15 is related to that sensor. Look for a rubbed/damaged wire there. Error code 23 is front injector. I had that too. one of the injector's wires was rubbed through to the metal and was intermittently grounding it out. The rear shocks can be rebuilt by racetech. Mine cost $300 or so I forget. nicer ones are available but they of course cost money |

Under the tank is too hot for the sensor and confuses the ECM. |

"I did notice the idle was pushing 1800 while stopped by a traffic flagger on the highway." This could be an indication of an intake seal leak, but it could simply mean your idle is set too high, like it was set when the engine wasn't fully warmed up. |

Thanks for the input. I've been away from the bike (monster jam with the kids and a greenhouse for their mom) but as soon as I do some investigating I'll post what i find. My honey do's are paid up so now it's bike time. |
