I decided to take a look at my ECM, just to look. Downloaded and installed ECM Spy, but when I launch the program I get a message reading, "Failed to load FTD2XX.DLL are the FTDI drivers installed?". This happens with or without the ECM cable connected to the computer. So, I looked up FTDI, found the recommended website, and tried to load the proper drivers (Windows 7). The error message persists. I am at the limit of my Windows knowledge. |

I went thru a bit of that with windows vista some time back. It seemed i had all of it hooked up, no drivers found but downloaded from ftdi. This was out in driveway with wifi on laptop hooked to buell. Unplugged cable, replug in , then windows looked for drivers and stuff just started working. Frank, the garden gnome probably helped with that. Not a computer guru either, but enough time aggravating it, it started working. the newest version of spy that i have, drivers are in the program and so far, it works great with windows 8.1. |

I will have to try just hooking up to the ECM and seeing if the computer will find the drivers on its own. Does the bike have to be turned on during this process, or just connected? I have found out that for a Power Commander to connect, the bike has to be on and running. |

There is a ftdi 'chip' in the cable that should be what the computer is looking for to 'drive'. Just plugging cable to computer for it to look for drivers should be enough. I had everything out in driveway and plugged up, turned on, and no drivers. I went thru all kinds of sequences , download drivers , turn on bike, etc. Once it found and loaded correct drivers , everything atarted working. For spy to work, key on and engine on/off switch on. Also pull your headlight fuse.. save battery juice while your on spy. Let me know how it turna out. If you need pm me. |

For me, just last week, I bought the $34 Amazon cable from NavePoint. It came with drivers that didn't seem to work or be needed, because when I plugged in the USB cable to my WinXP old PC, it was looking for drivers by a different name (FTDI driver). Once I enabled internet, Windows was able to find the driver and install. I verified it was showing working properly and the COM port # in Device Manager, then started ECMSpy 1.12.27 and connected to the bike's ECM (key on, bike not running, as usual). I then repeated the NavePoint cable install on a Win7 and a Win8.1 computer and it worked each time by searching the internet. Driver that came with the cable did not appear to be correct or needed. I have since used the setup to upload the EEPROm from both my EBR and stock ECM to compare them when I get the time. |

My usb end of cable has a FC CE. TTL-232R-5.0 V sticker on it . Pix are always to big to send without rework to make smaller. Bought this from xopti mike in 2008. I Dont know the quality of your cable or where you got it but you have to examine everything your using. |

Success! With ECM Spy NOT running, I plugged the cable into a USB port. A moment later a message appeared notifying me that Windows would search for and install the appropriate driver(s). A short while later the driver had been successfully installed and ECM spy is now working! Is there a way to switch to a graphic display for the live readout? I don't readily see a way but really have not spent much time searching just yet. |

If your using older version of spy, go to selections at top of box that is connections, datalog, etc. Somewhere in there is a selection that is the word proffesional..be sure that is selected or you wont be able to fully use the program. Hopefully, your allready in english and not german. Glad your getting hooked up. Be sure to save your original eeprom and map files in a couple of different places. |

I have version 2 of ECM Spy. I took a look at Youtube videos, which all showed graphic readouts, but also appeared to be version 1. |

I posted in noise abatement thread a screenshot of a page that shows the version of what the latest is that i have. There are not the graphics in this that there were in earlier versions. I have to do a whole lot more thinking and rereading of text to be where i am now to understand what stuff means. |

Good deal. Learning with someone else leads to quicker learning. I wonder if we are in minority using this version of spy. |
