Hi gang, I have a 2007 XB12R with a full Micron system which after 45,000kms has decided to snap the front mounting tags. On removing the muffler I discovered the front muffler plate is also cracked. I have taken it to a stainless steel welder who said he can repair it but he also said it would most certainly break again due to the vibration. My question is, can I mount the muffler on rubber bushes as opposed to the steel ones that are currently used. I do realise that too much movement would probably break the head studs, so I was thinking, to get made up, some high density bushes that would not allow any movement but at the same time eliminate some of the high frequency vibration. Has anyone on here experienced the same problem and have you found a solution. buelllord |

I just have put a micron system on my 2004 12s last summer. When fitting the muffler on the bike ,to see how it would sit and look. i did not like how it sits in the rear muffler clamp ,so did cut two pieces of stainless steel plate and made it in the same radius as the rear clamp is and welded it on both sides of the muffler. Also could re-use the rear muffler straps in this situation. And welded a small piece between the front muffler mount and the front edge of the muffler for more firmness. Now it fits just as good as the stock or race can.
I hope the pic is clear enough!? |
