I'll be there tomorrow night for the dinner and the interview. I'll let you know how it goes. |

The Barber Vintagefest, for this year at least, was all about Erik Buell, his companies, his bikes, and a lot of talk about the future of the EBR/Hero partnership. Erik was around and available most of the weekend, which included the engaging and interesting Friday night dinner interview with Alan Cathcart. Alan and Erik talked about all things Buell, starting with Erik's racing days, the start-up of Buell, the purchase and dissolution by Harley, and then the exciting future direction of EBR. On Saturday Erik signed autographs for a steady stream of fans and then provided commentary as old Buells and new EBR's took top positions in their class races. Gotta say---it was cool hanging out with a true American hero (no pun intended) and one of the great entrepreneurs of our time. He was humble, patient with the crowds, and not afraid to talk about the old times while pushing the ball forward with EBR. An incredible weekend for Buell fans (and there were plenty of Buells onsite---both in the museum and in the parking lot!). The Barber Museum is amazing, BTW, as is the track and the overall setting, not to mention tens of thousands of bikes parked everywhere for the festival. The original "Wall of Death" gang, carrying the heritage and roots of the original carnival-based shows, were great to watch and talk to as well. Flying in and out of Birmingham was easy. Next year we'll be riding down from DC. |
