I am currently a 1125r owner, and there is a 2009 xb12s, with a 1474 revolution performance big bore, drummer exhaust,tail chop,custom seat and integrated tail light. he is asking 9 grand, is that a reasonable price? I used to own a xb9s, and loved it, but a 1474cc bike seems like a crazy torque mosnter. | ||

Hard to say without seeing it, but all those changes only hurt resale value. A stock clean 09 is worth $4-5k, but a butchered bike would cut that in half. | ||

it has 1100 miles, the guy is in his 60's, he just wants to get a cruiser, and just wants to get the bike out of his garage. | ||

The 2009 has a "better" crank and "better" oiling. Still sounds risky to me if you run it hard. Here is a good idea. Look up Cycle Rama in Pinellas Park Florida (sorry, I don't have the number handy). Ask for Wes and see what his opinion is on that beast. If he gives it a thumbs up, go for it. If he thinks it's a bad idea, stay away. They have the records to prove their savvy. Of course, who did the job has a lot to do with how reliable it will be. | ||

9 grand is a lot for a Buell Lightning! Is that 1100 miles on the bike, or on the engine build? If you really like the custom stuff, then you might find it worth paying that much. Don't expect to get it back when you sell though. I would be concerned about the engine. There was a lot that Buell did to make the Sportster motor reliable at 103 hp. A lot of folks seem to think that there just isn't that much room left for hot rodding them and keeping them reliable. A lot will depend on the abuse you give it though. Ride easy and it probably won't be a problem, but then why get the hot rod? Personally, there's nothing there to add that kind of value to it. | ||

I would buy a cheaper stock machine, then pay a known shop to put a bigger bore kit on it so you know exactly what you have. I consider big bore to be kits that don't require machining the cases, bigger bore requires machining the cases and maybe other work too. |
