I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of motorcycle seat covers? My seat it severely cracked and sun damaged and it really throws the whole look of my bike off. A buddy at work was telling me that they make seat covers similar to what they make for cars, for ATV'S. Do they make these for motorcycles also? And more specific, for my Buell Blast. Or any tips on how to do a cheap apholstery job myself? I want to get it looking nice in hopes that someday I'll be able to sell it and get a Buell I can be proud of. But dreams aside, anyone have any tips? | ||

usually you can pick up some vinyl with the fabric back at walmart. then all you need is a stapler and some 1/4 or 3/8" staples. just pull your old cover off and use it as a template. make your new one about a 1/2" larger. start at the front center point of the seat and then the rear center point and work your way down the sides evenly pulling it tight as you go. | ||

I just did the back section of my '01 X1 in white at the seam. Made it look like there's a cowl on it. Get what's called the "marine grade". It's what they use in boats. It's heavier and repels water better. I think I paid $17.50 for a sq yd. I can probably get 3 seats out of it. Was either at Jo Ann Fabrics or Micheals. MM | ||

The Blast seat is easy, no sewing. As said above, remove the staples, cut the new one out of some vinyl using the old one as a template, cut about 1/2" larger. Carefully staple it back on, start a the back and work to the front. Careful not to pull it too tight, if you do it will warp the seat pan. |
