Does turning off the kill switch and key switch save the Battery from instrument cluster parasitic drain? Do I just need to suck it up and buy an updated cluster? |

Killswitch then key switch. That's how I do it. Never had an issue and I never use a tender. |

My early '08 will drain my battery even though I turn off the kill switch first. It takes several days, but it will drain it every time. As long as I keep it on a trickle charger, I never have any issues. I took a week long trip to Tennessee and forgot to put it on the charger. I had to jump start it one morning for a group ride. I put the charger on it after the ride, and had no more issues the rest of the trip. |

There was a recall on the early instrument clusters and software changes have been made to stop the parasitic drain causes by the I/C. |

Does anybody know the serial numbers effected by that instrument cluster recall? |

What, like Harley will give me a new cluster because there was a recall? Maybe I'll call and see what thier customer service says.... This bike I bought only has 2900 miles on it and was covered in about a half inch of dust. OEM tires are dry rotted, brake line has the original bracket that rubs, first generation instrument cluster...pretty wild |

If it was recalled, then yes. The thing is, the instrument cluster was not recalled. There were only two recalls on the 2008 1125R, one is the brake line reroute like you mentioned, the other is the 5th gear oil jet thing to prevent the transmission from locking up http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchResultsB yUrlCode.action?referenceSearch.requestId=14807&re ferenceSearch.urlCode=08XY85S5KE1HB2B There was also a product program that reroutes the fuel vent away from dripping on the muffler, replaces the kickstand spring, and changes the oil dipstick. That program was in 2008, they typically only run for a few years while recalls last virtually forever. There was also a product program to update the ECM fixing many issues on the early bikes, but at this point I'd just get a Race ECM for stock exhausts and run that. There was no product program for the instrument cluster, those that got them replaced had it done under warranty. |

There was a service bulletin for the cluster, which would get it replaced at no charge a) if the bike exhibited the battery drain symptoms and b) of the bike was still under warranty. I did get mine changed out while within the 2-year warranty period. I don't remember the service bulletin number. Presumably your bike is out of warranty and you'll have to pony up for a new cluster. |
