Cracked wire around the steering head, or failing crank position sensor. It's a lightning, so it could also be the wire bundle to the ECM where it goes near a battery terminal, which can be problematic if it was misrouted.

Given its heat related, I'd suspect the crank position sensor.

If you can get access to an oscilloscope, it is really easy to diagnose.

When you get done finding and fixing the MYSTERY PROBLEM do this ...

Get a bag of black tie wraps and bundle wires together and tie wrap the bundles to to the frame SO NO WIRES/BUNDLES ARE DOING THE WIGGLE TEST WHILE RIDING OR RUBBING ON ANYTHING ...

the stt has failure codes #11 ,14,&15.(14&15 check out OK ). the rear head temp sensor has the worst enviroment & its the hardest to get to . so i'm thinking replace it & do a TPS reset. (there has to be an easier way to clear the F codes than 50 x , key on ,run and key off cycles)

Make sure you have a good battery.Clean the throttle body throttle plate remove and replace plugs inspect plug wires. Clean battery grounds and frame grounds make sure they are secure.Do a proper TPS reset. Then do what Reepicheep and the others have mention.

On fuel injection models a BAD REAR HEADER(where O2 sensor is) "EXHAUST GASKET" will cause "DRIVE ABILITY PROBLEMS" and sometimes not show a code ???

Be sure to use GASKET,exhaust port PN 17048-98 as it is easier to install, seals better, and lasts longer ...
