I can't thank you all enough for the responses--I'll pass on the info to my mechanic so he has it.

Thank you for posting the service bulletin, Al! You rock (par for course).

On an unrelated note... and because I don't want to start another new thread:

My front brake lever isn't smooth and progressive as it once was: when I get into the meaty part of my front brake pull, it seems to "catch" and notch through its application. It's not a smooth, progressive pull. I'm assuming I need to do a caliper rebuild using Al's 17586 kit on the site (either that, or the MC).

When I had the front end off for the seals, removed the pads and scrubbed the piston areas with brake cleaner and a toothbrush. I thought the built-up gunk from the fork fluid mixing with road grim and getting tossed up all over the wheel/brake was causing my problems. Nope.

make sure the pad hanger pins are smooth clean and rust free. Could well be a MC problem, but that sounds sketchy, I'd do the caliper and MC, and check the brakeline for free flow while I was at it. Just to be on the safe side.

You may want to check the pivot pin of the lever, both my brake and clutch levers were not smooth and it was the grease on the pin had hardened/washed away, quick and easy to check and made a big difference.

Bigblock, I'll take the hanger pins out and polish them up since I have the caliper off again anyway (to get the fork fluid levels right). Thanks!

I'll clean up the lever pivot pin real good, too, Stimbrell. Thanks for the tip.

If those don't solve it, I'll work on the MC, then down to the caliper. I have a feeling problems with the brake fluid (level/contamination) couldn't cause this.
