I've got 2 issues that I would like help on. 1. My fuel pump used to turn off a few seconds after I turn the key on. I guess it gets the fuel system primed and pressured up and then is supposed to turn off. Well it simply stays on now. I'm guessing I need to check the wiring and all the grounds in it's circuit. Another issue is that the fuel light will come on and go off at random times. Could they be related? Will it hurt it to continue to ride like this? 2. Until the bike is completely warmed up and then ridden several miles, it will miss a little. If I open it up it seems to run fine, but a steady cruise and it will miss. At lower RPM's it will miss more. And even after it gets nice and warm and a lot of miles, it will miss from time to time. I just replaced the spark plugs and the wires (the previous owner bought them but never installed them). I put anti-sieze on the threads and dielectric grease in both ends of the cable. I have the EBR ECM, K&N air filter, and Drummer exhaust. I was hoping to do a TPS reset, but I've read that you should not use ECMspy to do it on an EBR ECM. I read where Froggy suggested (and provided a link) to use the TunerPro program. I followed the instructions by Xoptiinside to get it all setup. That was quite a process. I was able to read from the ECM. But, when I tried to do a TPS Reset, I get an error. I'm thinking my connection is a little "iffy". When I use the dash board to view the RPM, the needle bounces around quite a bit. It would settle on the actual RPM (I think) for a brief period, but then would bounce around. I guess I should check my ECM connection? Maybe open it up to see if anything looks wrong? I don't think my seat is touching it, but I'm sure it's possible. I saw where Fotoguzzi used silly putty on his to see where it was touching. Maybe I should try that. Thanks in advance for any help I can get. |

Rapuckett55 Posted on Monday, August 11, 2014 - Well it simply stays on now. Another issue is that the fuel light will come on and go off at random times. *Could they be related? **Will it hurt it to continue to ride like this? * Probably. There are a few threads that speak about shorted fuel pump & low fuel light wiring inside the fuel tank. From your symptoms, I suspect the fuel pump control wire is shorted to ground. ** Probably not, but if the power side of the circuit shorts. The bike will stop running. |

Your fuel pump symptoms are signs of wire chaffing. Pull the pump, you might be able to salvage it and repair it. You can continue to ride, until the day comes that you can't because the pump crapped out. Regarding the TPS reset, it is hard to say without playing with it myself, I suspect a damaged ECM, or possibly damaged wires. I've seen similar before with occasional misses with the CEL when warmed up, it was the ECM/seat issue. |

Thanks, Teeps. I may go ahead and get a new low fuel sensor. AmericanSportbike has them for $14.21. If I pull the pump to check for shorts, might as well eliminate an unknown while I'm there. |

Thanks, Froggy. I'm suspecting wiring to/from the ECM, and possibly the ECM itself. Mainly due to the bad connection to the laptop. Hopefully I can get out there tonight and start hunting these things down. |

I had the exact same issues as you with Tunerpro, logging data was almost useless from all the noise. Add a pause as instructed here: http://forum.tunerpro.net/viewtopic.php?t=2215, that took care of it, dashboard needles stable as rocks, and quite stable log curves. I still get the error with the TPS reset, but after all the resets I've done I figured it has to be a "wrong" error, and that resets actually are being done. |

@Pagprivat I only had a few minutes last night to play with this. I went to add the "pause before resend" but didn't have it on the list of commands. I played with other settings but didn't really find anything that worked. I read on down the thread and saw where someone added a "Listen for Silence." I may try that tonight. Although, I'll have less time tonight to play with it. As a side. My fuel pump starting working properly last night. Turning on the key to connect last night and the fuel pump primed the fuel system like it's supposed to do and then shut off. It did it a few times too. However, I see this as no sign that it's fixed. I'll be hunting down wiring problems. Plus pulling the fuel pump. I want to replace the Low fuel level sensor and check the wires inside the tank. |

@Pagprivat I was just browsing xoptiinside.com and found where he addresses this issue. http://xoptiinside.com/tunerpro_files_nedded_-_xdf _-_adx__excel_files It may have to do with the Payload and Body size. That's what I'm going to play with tonight. |

You're right, it's been a few months since I did this, but I remember I also added this listen for silence with 20ms intervals. I even thought of trying different time values as the logs still had some sporadic noise peaks, but never got too it. Come think of it, I posted an update here too, http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/727883.html Look at the screenshots before/after! |

Update. After adding the "Listen for Silence" I no longer get the spikes and sporadic behavior. I still get errors, but doesn't seem to effect anything. I didn't have much time to do much last week. Only a few minutes to play with settings. This past weekend I was finally able to perform a proper TPS reset. Seems to smooth things out a bit. I think what helped the most was doing the old "square idle" thingy. MAN, I tell you. It really smooths out the engine at idle and just off idle. Really comes in handy in the parking lot and in traffic. Plus, it no longer stumbles while warming up. I haven't dove into the Fuel pump issue yet. I ordered a low fuel sensor "just in case," but it hasn't arrived yet. I should have ordered it from Al, but I also needed an Oil dipstick. Saved on shipping getting them both from the same place. On a positive note, most of last week, the fuel pump was behaving properly. However, this morning it stayed on continuously. I'm hoping the sensor comes in by this weekend so I can get that resolved before it completely goes out. I've really been enjoying this bike! With the TPS reset and the square idle, it is really a joy to ride! Thanks for all the help from this board. |

I finally got around to taking my fuel pump out this weekend. Found a couple of slightly nicked wires. I took some clear fuel line and slit about 1.5" of it. Filed down the sharp edge. I didn't put heat shrink on the 2 wires. I didn't want to cut the spades off and I REALLY didn't want to unsolder/resolder the wires from the bulkhead. I felt like the nicks were pretty small and that they would touch each other. Each end is exposed to gas, so I didn't think I needed to worry about gas on it. I also changed out the low fuel sensor. It will be nice to finally have that working. Yesterday on the home from work the low fuel light came on at about 163 miles. another 15 miles later and I put 3.9 gallons in this morning. Thanks for all the help here on BadWeb. This place is a wealth of knowledge. |
