Hello Everyone! First of all thanks for such an inviting platform for all things Buell Blast! The theme of the day is "new blast" it seems as I got one this last weekend as well.

It is a 2010 model, with 821 miles on the odometer. I believe it was a Rider's Edge Bike as it is has been laid down or scuffed on both sides, but I am not completely certain as I bought it from a man who had purchased it for his wife, only to come to the conclusion later that she just wanted to sit on the back of his bike. The title read 799 miles when they obtained it, so they put about 20 miles on it in the time they had it. It now has 860!! ; )

After riding it yesterday I noticed there was a small puddle on the floor and I immediately looked for the cause. As you can see by the title of the post and the photo attached it appears to be coming from between the adjuster lock nut and the drain hole. The wet look of the black paint in the image is largely due to the flash and is not oil. Based on the attitude of the bike on the kick stand I would think a leak of the gasket would cause a drip farther back on the bike and I detect no oil o the seam.

Anyone know if this is common? Maybe what appears to be a crush washer was not crushed adequately? ...I have the service manual on order now. in the interim is there a torque spec for the lock nut? I have read the newbie guidance on adjusting the primary and will do so as soon as I cross the 1000 mile mark.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Also, a little about me. I am 44 and returning to riding after a 18 year hiatus. I rode mostly 70s Japanese bikes that I enjoyed the style of and could work on. RD350 two stroke twins, CB400s, etc.

..thought I would try a simple American bike this time! ...largely based on what I have read here. Thanks again.

Cheers from Kansas City,

KC_Woody

The leak!

Some teflon tape - use the type for gas pipe, and a o-ring are the usual ways. Need to add oil to bottom of gear teeth afterwards.

Thanks EZ Blast!

Unfortunately on closer examination it appears to be somewhat stripped. The lock nut moved easily, and a slight tensioning in an attempt to seat it yielded that snug/ not snug feeling. I have experience with steel bolts in aluminum and I gently tried to get it to seat and it never really gained purchase. hardly any torque was used. I have not undone the bolt all the way and examined the threads, but I am reasonably confident it is stripped.

So the next question would be are these worth heli-coiling or would a new clutch cover be in order. ...I sent a text to the seller who has heretofore been quite chatty, but no reply as of yet.

I will no be able to pull and drain and see for a day or two. sigh.

Well at least I got a ride in before repairs. ...I do not like the prospect of it shaking loose (I realize the bolt is captive due to the muffler) or the rate of oil loss increasing unbeknownst to me. bummer.

Helicoil will be fine. The bolt isnt under that much torque or tension.
