The reason a gas like propane is recommended is that it will cause the RPMs to rise, making it clear you have a leak and it is sucking it in. If it is sucking in plain air, it won't change how the engine idles, so you wouldn't know for sure if it really has a leak or not. | ||

Thanks. This is a succinct answer. I'd been searching and finding threads suggesting brake cleaner, etc. and that did not sound like a good way... | ||

Everything in moderation, If you plan putting a whole can a brake clean into your cylinders during this test I wouldn't recommend it, You can just spritz around what your checking though and that would be fine, again everything in moderation...and as long as you give it a small break(to clear out the break clean residual) of about a minute between successfully raising the RPM with the break clean you'll be alright. | ||
