Hello, Just got my S3 in June and have spent the last few weeks collecting parts and doing maintenance. Oh, and riding it daily! I got the Buell to tour on, as my other ride (Honda RC51) is not the most comfortable or practical for that role. My plan was to mount some soft bags, so I bought some (Ogio) and picked up the stock large S3T saddlebag bracket on eBay for some more secure attachment points. The bracket arrived without instructions or hardware. I've got it mounted to the licence plate bracket and passenger pegs, that was obvious, but the top underseat mount has me stumped. Has anyone got a pic? I found this link to the needed bolt over on TWIN Motorcycles website. http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp? guid=yxhfsc&aid=4677&cid=0&s=saddlebag&a=&aname=Sc rew_No._10-32_X_78_hex_socket_button_hd_black It is calling for a No.10-32X78 hex socket, but that it WAY too small to attach anything. None of the cap bolts in my assortment fit the threaded hole in the frame, and even then, the tube on the bracket seems like an odd way to attach. Am I missing something? Is there some kind of rubber mount this is supposed to slip over? I'm stumped. I should say I've been lurking on BadWEB for a while now and it has been a great resource. Thanks! | ||

I think it's a 5/16" UNC bolt from memory... and you'll have to run a tap through to clean the thread up... | ||

Somewhere . . . at one time . . . I had a handful of these "rubber bumpers". It was a Dave U. design and worked well but folks tended to overextend them and "'load" the bag frame.  | ||

Ahh, we're talking about part # 23 ?? I thought he was reffering to the top two mounting points on the main pannier frame. | ||

Thanks StevO. I went back to Greggs where I got the cap bolts and assortment kit yesterday. The kit was all coarse thread, at the same time I bought some 5/16 fine thread, no go. Today I picked up some 8x40 metric cap bolts whose thread looks to be in between the fine and coarse from yesterday, and these don't thread either. I've also tried every bolt I have in my random assortment, I hope a tap is all this is going to take! I don't have a tap set, but always like an excuse to pick up a new tool. My closest HD dealer says the part is obsolete, so they can't get the factory bolt even if I wanted it. I still find it weird that the bolt just goes through the tube with nothing else to hold/support it. just the washer pressing the metal to the frame. | ||

Yeah, that's exactly how it mounts... The cap head bolts I used were off a set of HD handlebar risers I think.. I just went through my bolt box until I found something that fitted  I've mounted the frame on two of my S3's and both needed the tap to clean the hole out.. | ||

Good call on cleaning the threads with a tap, my bracket is now solidly mounted! There happened to be a sale on a 46 piece Tap and Die set, so I went and picked it up. No problems at all cleaning the hole out, and I have new tools too. Thanks for the help! | ||
