When it only fired on one cylinder, it didn't idle very well, I wasn't able to drive very fast. Everytime I went to opted the throttle, it would die. Now, it doesn't start up at all, but I also adjusted the timing for it to fire on the both cylinders. I think its not getting the fuel to ignite both now though which is why I think I need a fuel injected throttle body instead of the carburetor one on it now. |

Remove the carb and clean out the float bowl. Remove float and needle {the needle is attached to the float}. spray carb cleaner with attached nozzle down all the passages including needle seat (hole where the needle goes). Maybe this bike is set up with out ECM ??? Wear safty glasses when spraying the carb cleaner. |

You think that the carb is just gunked up and needs to be cleaned out? |

From the info I'm getting it seems that its 1)may need ecm? 2}This bike might be set up for non ecm operation,I don't know? 3}under performing carb not able to meet fuel demands. Nothing wrong with carbs if set up right. |

If it were me, I'd have to sit and think long and hard which direction I want to go. Either choice would be reasonable. You could go the "make it an M2" route. Make sure it has M2 cams and heads, then just slap in the M2 carb with jetting and the M2 ECM, yank out any injector / fuel pump / etc mess, and have a nice little carb'd motor. A little less power, a little less fuel economy, but a simpler motor. Or you could go back to the "get it back the way it was" route, and replace all the missing fuel injection stuff. More complicated, but all "known unknowns". When you run into a wire or a part that you don't completely understand, you simply open the service manual and get one and exactly one right answer on what it was supposed to be so you can make it like that. I've lived with the M2 carb, and found it quite nice on a tuber. Nothing wrong with that. I do like the "more power and more economy" of the Uly though, and modern gasolines are making carbs a less happy place. |

If it is a carb or FI engine does it not need an ECM (Engine control module) or (Ignition control module) whatever you need for a carb or EFI bike???? I grew up on 50's to 60's to 70's cars. I know they did not need one. OK just coming into the 70,s. |

Okay, sorry for the long delay, I have just been trying to figure out which route to take and go with that. So What I have done since my last post: I decided to go for the "get it back the way it was" route and so I pulled out the carb throttle body and manifold, installed the fuel injected throttle body and manifold, ordered the ECM and should be up and running once I replace the old fuel injectors (one isn't working and one is) I figured it would just be better to replace them both since I got the body, manifold, fuel rail assembly and injectors from a guy off ebay. So my next step is to install my ECM when I get it in the mail and see if she fires up. Thanks everyone! |
