I don't think it is very often that a Uly XT like this comes up for sale...in this condition...with this many quality refinements. My sale price will be proportionally more for this specialized motorcycle because of this...but believe me, the new owner will be purchasing much more than they ever expect. Using my engineering background, I modified this motorcycle in an effort to improve design weaknesses and create a durable, comfortable motorcycle. Through much testing and changing of parts at great expense, I can truly say this Buell has turned out to be greater than the sum of it's parts and has become a motorcycle with limits expanded well beyond those of a stock Uly. This motorcycle has never been on it's side, in an accident or had parts replaced because of damage. Frankly, the original engine and frame are so clean and free of markings that one might think these components to be new. They are original to the bike. I am 5'7" and this XT has been constructed to offer me two footed stability when stopped while not sacrificing ride quality. I do have a brand new set of 2" lower Knight designs billet foot rests if the rider requires extra leg room while riding.

Through the build process I accumulated many parts, none of which are second quality. I will list these items below first. These components will be included in the sale if the buyer's offer is fair for the complete package. The greater I discount the price, the less will be included in the sale. None of these parts are available for sale separately at this time.

Extras not shown on motorcycle but included:
Hand Guards with mounting hardware...as new.
Stainless steel headlight guard...as new.
2010 Black, 3 bearing rear wheel kit w/axle...as new.

This motorcycle has never been left out in the rain. All the hardware is clean & fresh, not nasty looking. A comprehensive service was recently performed using Mobil 1 oils. This motorcycle has no fluid leaks...anywhere. It is extremely stable at speeds over 100mph. The drive belt has about 5k miles as do the front and rear wheel bearings. Both tires will need replacement withing the next 3-5k miles.

I am open to tender offers from those knowledgeable and interested in purchasing this motorcycle and everything listed here as one lot. I am not desperate for money just want to go on to another build project. Everything is located in the Atlanta area. I also own 2 other Buells, so I am not getting out of the Buell business. OMG...I received many Pm's last evening about selling the bike separately, without the parts, or selling the parts off as a lot or pieced out. All the parts here really complete this motorcycle to create a very tricked-out, unique and capable Uly which will excel at any task requested of it. For now it is a one lot offering...motorcycle & parts. If the new owner were to decide to part it out I am sure a nice piece of change could be recovered from the purchase price and he/she would still have a very clean, well maintained Uly. For example...the Toby steering stabilizer retailed at $418.00 + overseas shipping, and the ecm, titanium muffler and K$N retailed near $800.00, the 3 bearing rear wheel assembly another $$$$.00....and the list goes on...and don't forget the clear lens, Euro HB trunk, (how many of these have you seen?) a very unique piece which I purchased new and had shipped from Germany...you get the picture. All this is cash back for the new owner if parting out a sorted, capable Uly is your thing. For now...it's a one lot sale. Thanks all for your kind comments.

Mileage is standing at about 14k right now and this project was started after the first owner sold the bike to me with about 9k on it. It has been over a year of trial and error and having fun. Some of you may have seen me sell nearly new parts here and on eBay from time to time that just didn't perform as well as I thought they should have. I've tried 3 seats (a Corbin, a Sargent and the std low seat) before I had this unit custom shaped by my upholstery shop. By far the best of the three. Handlebars, foot rests, windshields, mufflers, levers, spark plugs, etc...changed several times until the right outcome was obtained. If you have never ridden a Buell with a quality steering stabilizer you don't know what you are missing. These motorcycles sit high & have a very steep fork angle, and at higher road speeds the chassis has a tendency to feel loose. Not the case with the Toby's stabilizer. I have had this bike well over the 100mph mark and I am pleased to say...all is good...solid as a rock.

Pricing this motorcycle is tough for me because of all the time, energy and expense I have exhausted on it which I know I can never recover. For argument sake...I think the bike without the do-dads, in this condition is worth around $6k..ish...then add part of the cost of the refinement and bonus parts, and that will give you an idea of what I will settle for. Looking back, I wish someone would have offered me this deal. It would have saved me a ton of money. BTW I do still have the stock muffler (in new condition), belt pulley guide, and other miscellaneous parts that go with the bike too...and nothing is in a shabby state like extra parts usually are. Everything is clean, bagged or boxed and labeled. Offers welcome!

Bingo.

Anyway you cut it and no matter how much you love it . . . it'll sell within 10% of what every other well maintained bike of the same year.

I sold an S1 with over $25,000 invested and learned the lesson . . . you do that stuff for fun . . .not to increase the resale price.

This is going to be a great $6,500 Uly if it sells.

Court...with all respect, I know this bike is not for most Uly buyers...nor would I prefer to sell it to someone not knowledgeable of what has been accomplished here. That would be a waste. The bike is for someone, like me, that wants something really special. The benefit for that specialized buyer is that all the work is already done and at a fraction of what it would have cost for them to do it. Anyone that has owned one of these bikes, or has read about the Uly shortcomings, can see the cohesive improvements here and imagine the real difference they make. This was not a bolt-together project, or did I just add on parts that someone said were good. Everything had a purpose, like the Titanium muffler, with the optional insert, which cut 18#'s from the weight of the bike and is durable (not like alum or cf), mellow and quiet. Is there another replacement muffler for the Uly that offers all of these traits...plus? This is the only Jardine canister material that won't start coming apart after 10k miles. Btw, I had my muffler assembled with aircraft grade, SS casing screws so as to eliminate all the loosening and maintenance issues that rivets create. Just another little improvement. More? Ecm relocation? Done (with stainless bracket & hardware). Entire wiring harness inspected and rerouted and/or re-wrapped in high stress areas? Done. Every ground cleaned? Done. The list goes on.....

I purchased this Uly after 9 months of looking at many so called "excellent condition" bikes. I started with a super nice example. I know a Uly is a Uly and the market will set the price...however...the extras will NOT be included for free.

Good. . . .you and I have nearly identical philosophies about how to maintain vehicles.

I also have the experience . . having owned, modified and sold many Buells over nearly 30 years of riding them . . . to know that all that makes some, but precious little, difference in sale price. Many of my Porsche friends learn the same lesson when they go to sell.

The market would support about $6,500 for a near perfect Ulysses. Keep us posted and let us know what you get for it.

My opinion is nothing more or less than my opinion based on my experience.

Generally when a person refuses to tell what they will sell something for it's prima facie evidence that their price and reality are separated by a variance far greater than the market will bear.

Eventually . . .if you are going to sell it you will have to say "I want $xxx for it".

Court, you and I may be cut from the same cloth. I have been owning and riding Buells since 95 and have been a motorcycle collector/enthusiast since 1968. I hope that doesn't make my age too apparent. For a period of about 10 years, late 80's to the late 90's, I was a subordinate business partner with another individual in a Honda/Yamaha motorcycle dealership. When we sold that dealership I took with me the knowledge of fine tuning motorcycles. Notice I did not say customizing, because tuning is a different exercise and not primarily for looking good. The looking good part occurs as a result of using high quality components and having order and discipline in your working environment. Many of us that respect this discipline, and know what it yields, are willing to throw a few more bucks into the ring when our expectations are of the same degree. I did it when I purchased this bike and I know I am not alone in my thinking. Others can never rationalize anything except price no matter how refined something is.

I have been fortunate enough to own several high-end, exotic cars in my lifetime, and know for a fact that onlookers just don't get it. And it doesn't matter...you can explain to them until you are blue in the face why you own that car...they still won't get it. But you, behind the wheel, know that what you feel is special, you understand what it is all about...and you want more! The problem is once you have that experience, it remains etched in your being...and it is so very hard going back to mediocrity. This bike will take you to that next Ulysses level!

If this motorcycle doesn't sell this time around...it doesn't sell. I am offering an opportunity...that's all.

1995 was a great year ....... I took a buell through 37 states on a single ride. I had an XLCR, an XR-1000 and 9 other Buells and HD's at he time. My partner was collecting, still does, rare cars like the first 930 turbo in the USA and a gorgeous 300SL Gullwing.

Price?

Years ago I had an very successful acquaintance in the business of wholesaling quality automobiles. He occupied a small lot, on a not so well traveled street, in northern NJ. His reputation was that of honesty, quality and fair prices. Looking thru his inventory was always a real treat, except for the purposefully inflated prices on the windshields. However, any serious, knowledgeable buyer realized his business strategy... and instinctively knew enough to ask, "how much?". His reply was always the same..."what are you willing to pay?" He accomplished many things with this one question posed to his prospective buyer, and the response (or no response) he got usually told him even more.

In a previous post I said, "I think the bike, without the do-dads, in this condition, is worth around $6k..ish". That is a starting point. Okay, now, look at the lists of enhancements and extras (for now let's forget about adding value for the many hours of time and effort involved in putting this bike together), and add up the cost of those enhancements & extras. A true Uly enthusiast can do this. Now, to be fair to any prospective buyer, let's also throw out paid taxes and shipping costs and deduct a percentage for whatever argument can be mustered up for not wanting to pay what was actually paid for the parts, and you will come down to a specific number. Add that to the "$6k...ish", and there you have it! Fair? The answer to your question is, "what are you willing to pay?". Thx.

...forgot to mention...the front motor mount was replaced with the updated version and the rear shock is a brand new OEM replacement unit as of about 5k miles ago.

This has gone on long enough.
From my east coast experience last few years.

+ XT is about $5k stock
That means all the spare stock parts need to go with it.

+ All the accessories on the used market could bring $3k

= So $8k is a fair starting point for any serious buyer looking.

Call it what you want but it's just a modified buell. And here's my personal biased view/opinion, it's JUST an XT... It's a uly that has defeated it's own purpose. Great for shorter people but that's about it.

I have several of those heavily modified Buells and realize when time comes, parts will come off for the sale. I tried this on a forum a few weeks ago. My 9SX has $4k in parts on it from race rotor to Ulysses rider sets & most people just laughed & "love the look" it's still a 9SX.

I've seen turbo Buells and $5k motors go for less than some stock Buells so you need to find the "needle" but I think it's in the rain forest, not the hay stack.

Yes...all the stock parts are included with the motorcycle either attached or not. The accessories, which did cost more than $3k, have an agreed fair, used market value of about that amount. $8k would be palatable as a fair starting point.

Jrobey7, I respectfully debate; This is NOT just an XT for shorter people.
Fact: Most buyers of X's and XT's continue to complain about not being able to get both feet firmly on the ground while stopped.
Fact: These are the tallest bikes Buell ever produced & many potential buyers are discouraged from purchasing a Uly directly because of this.
Fact: At some time or another, most Uly's have been dropped as a result of being so tall.
Fact: My Uly addresses this & for added rider comfort 1" or 2" drop pegs are provided.
Fact: As a result my motorcycle will fit many more avg size riders than if it remained at the stock ride height.

Now... and more important, keep in mind that the Scg (of which I have ownership experience) is the most desirable version of the Buell because it is tight to the ground and compact. Due to these features it handles stupid well. My Uly approaches this Scg quality while still being a Uly.

As Damnut mentioned, all of those items are to be included in the TITLE. An asking price has still not been posted anywhere. "A true Uly enthusiast" could price all your parts and make calculations, but only you know what you'll accept. That's why they require an asking price (otherwise everyone dances around the issue, like the last few posts).

Please, please, please guys...your killing me! Someone kindly page back and look at the long list of Titles in the Vehicles For Sale category and tell me how many sellers have put all the information you are asking for in there. Some of the titles are only one or two words! Why is my Title so offensive?

This is a good faith offer to pass a truly fine motorcycle along to someone that may genuinely be interested in it. It is a great offer!

For clarity...and...as previously stated: It's an 08 ULY, about 15k miles, Hero Blue, $8k or offer. Everything on both lists included in the sale (see lists)! Located in Atlanta area. Condition...the best I've seen. Look at the pictures. They are attached...more on request.

I see a basically stock 09 just got posted here for $7100.

So, I'll offer this Uly, the entire package (except the stabilizer), for $7500.

I can take that down another $300...to $7200 by keeping the boxed-up 3 bearing rear wheel.

BTW, I just got back from a 3 day trip to Fl on the bike and it ran I75 at a nice, comfortable 75mph. So it has a few more miles on it now. That was my last Uly trip for the season so, if no takers, it will be going into storage until spring. May offer it for sale again then. Thx to all who had nice things to say about this great motorcycle.

The motorcycle and all the parts listed are going up for sale on eBay as one lot Sunday evening. If the motorcycle is sold without the additional components I will then consider selling those parts separately. Thank you!

I have to say thanks for sharing the attention to detail . . . I spent the last 2 days tearing everything electrical out from behind the fly screen and replacing (or cleaning) every single connection . .using contact paste and new connectors . . .cleaned all grounds . . . cleaned and ran all threads and re-ty-rapped everything.

Took it on a journey from NYC to PA tonight . . just got home at 3am and the thing was flawless.

There's something about the Uly that just works . . .

We used to live in Northern NJ. Weekend motorcycle rides would often take us out Rt94 thru Blairstown and on to the Gap. From there Rt80 would be our escape artery to many small towns in and around Eastern Pa. Or, we would head to up-state NY thru Warwick and Newburgh to find our way out across the Bear Mountain Bridge and beyond. Without actually being there it is difficult to describe to someone what it is like to meander around 7 Lakes Drive on your motorcycle in the Autumn. My wife and I have ridden many highways together, and I have to say, our northeast adventures have proven to be the most memorable.

Taking on these relatively small Uly projects really does make a difference in the integrity of the motorcycle. I am all for preventative maintenance. There is nothing worse than having a problem and not knowing what in the world is the cause or where to start looking. Once you have gone through these systems and taken the time to do what you have done, at least then you know what can be eliminated if a problem develops. Well worth the time and effort. Good for you!
