Just for the record Bimota has done a pretty good job of entering a race series on the cheap.

1. Buy already developed engine/drive train from an unrelated company.
2. Buy fully developed suspension and brakes etc. from a few others others.
3. Build a frame to mount these components, add some body work and slap your name on it.

Tah-Dah! Instant race bike. Just add rider.

Seems pretty shrewd to me:

1. Buy one of the best superbike engine/electronics packages available.
2. Buy your suspension/brake package from the FIM approved list of suppliers, as does EVERY other Superbike team.
3. Build a frame that is lighter than the original BMW frame to improve on the original.

Please tell me what is so wrong with the concept that Bimota have produced? This is what Bimota have done since they started back in the 70's surely? Take a decent production engine and put it into an exotic frame to improve it?

Oh yeah....just add rider(s) capable of delivering results.

As I have based my information on documented results I don't see that as hypothesizing at all, just stating facts. Any informed guesswork has been based on those results and the visible lack of progress made so far by the team. Unfortunately nobody can put a positive spin on those : (

OK, first free practice from Donington- Yates has picked up the pace a bit. He ran 22 out of 26, a smidgen over 5 seconds slower than the fastest bike. May is oddly over 2 seconds slower in 25th.

Something occurred to me last night- a photo from Donington this morning shows they're still running that huge conventional muffler hung off the right side of the bike. We first saw this muffler at Assen and the implication then was that it was required due to lower-than-normal noise limits at the Dutch track. However, they're still running this exhaust 2 races later.

I wonder if the WSBK noise limits are generally lower than what's allowed in AMA Superbike? If the EBR teams have had to lower the noise output since they entered WSBK, that might explain why they've been slower in WSBK than in AMA.

Yes. However I remember a while ago that the EBR was actually too loud for AMA competition but got special dispensation?

The noise levels are the same for everyone though, so there is no reason whjy they shoudl suffer more than Ducati in this regard surely? Ducati manage to keep their bike within the noise limits with an under belly muffler arrangement.

I don't know if May had a problem this morning as he ran a lot less laps than Yates in FP1 (13 vs 21 I think).

It may also be that Donington still has a local noise limit that is less than the usual WSB limit, as noise is a big issue for UK circuits these days (although you'd think that being next to a busy ariport would negate that!).

I remember a few years ago Buell organised a track day at Donington for Buell owners to try their bikes on track and take some demo XBR's out on the road. What they forgot to tell owners was that Donington had a very strict noise policy in place and allowed no exceptions.

The result? Almost EVERY bike that arrived fitted with an aftermarket pipe (and pretty much everyone had such a pipe fitted) was deemed too loud for track use and not allowed on the circuit. After some very heated arguments between Buell owners and H-D staff most people just used the demo bikes and left their own bikes in the car park : (

The only aftermarket pipe that passed the noise tests was Remus : )

I can't imagine how frustrated Geoff must be.

Aaron seems to be doing pretty well. He did actually improve one position.

1st session: lap time- 1'33.579, time behind fastest- 5.126
2nd session: lap time- 1'32.734, time behind fastest- 4.652

So he improved considerably in an absolute sense and relative to the fastest bike.

Matt- what's the criteria for getting into super pole? If Geoff can get back on the track and somehow pull out his usual ~2 second better than Aaron time, that'd put him around 15th place. THAT would be a serious improvement over previous races.

Super pole is for the top 20. Yates is not far off and this is the closest they have come this year to being in super pole

The top 20 go into the first Superole.
At the moment Yates is .4 off the top 20 although I suspect Morais in particular could go faster than he showed in FP2. No mention so far of Geoff Mays problem so who knows if he can even make FP3.
The weather is set to be much wetter this afternoon so it may not be possible for anyone to improve their times. if that is the case then the top 20 will be as of FP2.

Yeah what a shocking result for Kawasaki! Only first and third fastest in FP1 and 2nd adn 4th in FP2. What are they thinking, sack themanager immediately!

How much time do you want in order to see some improvement? Lets not get too excited yet, Yates time in FP2 would put him 16th on the 600 supersport grid!

It's great that there is some good news for a change. Yes they are still miles off the pace but at least there is improvement. Looking at the 600 SS times I see that the top 8 are in the 1.31's. The EBR certainly makes more power than the 600's so with a breakthrough with chassis setup it's possible for Aaron to pick up a second or more. I'm hoping they find it.
