I have recently done a ton of mods to my 06 Uly and As i am gaining confidence with working on the bike I'm thinking I'd like to check the timing and do a TPS reset (10K miles and I'm pretty sure its never been done)...so i'll be using the ECM spy for the first time...Any hints or things i should/shouldn't do ? Thanks in advance for your help! |

Backup and save several copies of original eeprom in several different places. They are like gold. Get a binder , sharp pencil, and document everything by date n activity. I have vista and open as administrator for spy to work. Good luck and keep us posted. |

Second note, if you have new version of spy, watch out for tick boxes. I did tps reset, made a few other changes , went to save and burn file. Fired uellymae up and would not idle for crap. Found after a few minutes of panic, that tick box for cps was unchecked. Rechecked ,saved and idling again. No idea how box got unchecked. That is why i write everything down to have a point to go back to. |

Go into device manager (Press Start, type in Device Manager then hit enter), then find the cable. It will have the COM port number listed.
From there, go into the ECMspy settings and make sure it is using the right port. Alternatively, you can try the auto detect option, or you can brute force it by just trying the COM ports till one works. |

I received an error message when I first tried to get ECMspy to work. I had to load a special file to a certain location to get it to function correctly. Can't remember exactly which file it was or where it went. How do you search your own old posts? I can try and find it again, but I don't know how to use this website's search function. |

Ok found the post. The missing file is called CDM 2.04.06. It was a required driver on my XP laptop to get it to work with the cable to bike connection. Here's the thread with all the details: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/709678.html?1367201014 |

Windows 7 and 8 don't need an additional driver, it automatically downloads and installs the right one. |

I had the same problem years back. I had to dump it and down load it from a different source.....where ever that was. Long time ago, sorry I can't help more than that. |

The cable is not just that and has a chip in the USB end. You will need the driver for the cable go here for it. http://www.ftdichip.com/ (Message edited by uly_man on May 09, 2014) |

Still can't get this damn cable to work and I've had some semi professional help...I think the cables bad. There is good news though...the original cable that came with the bike also came with software...technoresearch...and I found an old Windows xp computer that would run it....connected to the bike...reset the tps and afv and...WHEEEELIIIEEEE! I would have never in my life thought a tps reset would help this much...I would still love to get the ECM spy running...but for the moment I'm happy and going riding! |
