Well ... I took the muffler off ... not an easy chore (why did they hide the rear bolts inside the bracket ???). I have not gone to an after-market muffler because of cost ($300-$400) and because I really don't like noisy bikes ... my other ride is a Goldwing :-) Is there an after-market muffler that is quiet and does not require any carburetor modifications ??? Anyway ...I'm painting the original muffler with 2000 F. header paint hoping that it will look decent for a while. I painted it a couple years ago and accidentally spilled gasoline on it when removing the tank one day ... the paint just ran off immediately. | ||

Gent, I have seen Sportster mufflers adapted to the Blast, but you need a header to make the Sportster muffler work. The ones that I have heard aren't all that loud. Kenny G | ||

A header with a stock sportster muffler is not loud at all. I run an aftermarket sportster muffler and it's only as loud as a V&H. Jar dine or V&H will sell you a head pipe only, but you might have to lie about why you need it! | ||

Erick, I just got word from the parts guy at the Harley shop near me that D&D has a surplus of Blast headers and they would like to get rid of them. I guess if you get the right person on the phone they can be talked down in price. I am thinking of buying one just to have a spare around. Gent if you go with the D&D make you sure you look for EZ's instruction on mounting the header on your Blast. Kenny G | ||

Jardine will sell their header for about 100 bucks - can't beat that! Just use stock lower front mounting hardware. EZ | ||

Is the fitting where the header bolts to the engine specific to Blast! or is it a common fit with Sportster ??? ... and yes, how much are the Blast! headers at D&D ??? | ||

All Evo headers are the same (unless they changed in recent years). The Harley ones may use a thicker flange, so you might need longer exhaust studs. | ||

Just finished putting the original freshly painted muffler back on ... quite a job ... difficult to align bolts at the bottom of the engine and the brackets behind the engine. Had to call for help from Dixie (my wife of 46 years). She is really a great mechanics helper for all those times when I need three or four hands at once. We were both 23 when we got married ... you do the math. I wonder just how many husband / wife mechanic teams our age can disassemble / reassemble Goldwings and Blasts ... I had a Jardine put on with the "Quiet Core" and it's only somewhat louder. I changed because I wanted easy access to drain the primary, other than that actually, I prefer the stock set-up even though it's heavier, and with the Quiet Core the Jardine it runs about the same price as the stock muffler from the dealer. |
