This is a s1 steering lock what Basti said
Maybe you have a worth with the person you bought it from ,and have a talk about the numbers and what was on his (old) insurance papers!? He also got it from the UK ,so ask him about the original uk papers or import papers! |

Both the S3 and M2 models had lower footpeg mounts. Also the rear subframe section is different and at a shallower angle on these models, so you can't just put an S1 seat on as it looks 'odd', so yours does look like a S1 frame. The other alternative of course is that someone has restamped your frame with a different number and it could be a stolen bike or a 'ringer' made from a write off The frame has definitely been refinished because all the early S1 frames that arrived in the UK were silver and the paint and welds were quite poor. Somebody has taken a lot of time to refinish this bike and could have altered the VIn while they were at it. Early 96-97 S1's brought into the UK were imported by dealers rather than by H-D, so you may try to check with Warr's in London and Just Harleys in Newcastle, as they were amongst the first to bring them over and may keep records (although I doubt they go back that far sadly). lastly, it may just be a mistake at the factory when it was built. The early S1 models were pretty much put together by hand so someone may have just mis-stamped it by mistake? |

The most important thing is does the numbers stamped in the frame match the title and does the title say S1! Really thats all that matters. |

Brother_in_buells: yes, I have the same lock (but I dont have a key sadly ) I found sticker with VIN (mine sticker isnt on head but on frame in front of engine), it is probably not original but that doesnt matter. Number on frame, number on sticker and number in papers, everywhere is the same number so thats a good thing. It looks like I have mysterious bike :-) I am glad that it is not some "Frankenstein", but regular S1. That's what I was afraid the most. |

Well it sounds like a mistake at the factory so now you have an even rarer machine! |

I just browsed the web and I found this horrible picture http://www.sportbikerider.us/SP/23671 And I was like, what if thats the case of my bike? So I went into garage and started looking. I found one weird ding. I am not sure if this could happened in factory when they bended the tube. It is in the same hight as that huge aluminium block on the forks (sorry, I have not idea how it is called in english). What do you guys think? I also added few more pictures with joints. Just to be sure. http://imgur.com/a/7E2d4 |

I found sticker with VIN (mine sticker isnt on head but on frame in front of engine) if you have a good look at this very nice buells here http://mjrphoto.smugmug.com/Photography/MOTORCYLES /1997-BUELL-S1/n-pz2gf/ On the red s1 you can see the sticker on the front frame support. |

Can somebody check those welding joints from my post above? If they are from factory and not some "homemade" ones? I know it can be hard to tell, but... I am probably a bit paranoid, but I will not sleep properly without it Brother_in_buells: thank you for those pics, amazing machines |

How can it be a mistake from the factory if is stamped with a LATER model year? Don't yell if I am not correct I haven't been following this thread really close. |

All this time you're wasting trying to figure out your bike's pedigree you could spend riding it...I just checked and its 71F in Slovakia. Come on and put some miles on that thing... |

Okep, The weld in your picture joing the headstock to the frame looks very suspect to me and nothing like I have seen before If you look at S1owners pics above you will what I mean. |

unfortunately my computer won't allow me to post images so I am not able to mark it. However if you look at the 5th picture down on your page http://imgur.com/a/7E2d4 you will see where the frame tubes have been welded very badly to the steering head. Compare this to the pictures above by S1owner and you'll see what I mean. I can only suspect that your frame has been welded together at some time and was originally two different bikes. |

This one? http://i.imgur.com/Um4dBko.jpg Are you sure? I mean, I think that all tubers were made by hand, so it may vary. Or am I wrong? (Message edited by Oklep on May 01, 2014) |

yes that is the one. I know that some frame welding on early frames was pretty sketchy but yours looks like it was done by the local blind school It really doesn't look like any Buell welding I've seen, even on early S1 frames, even allowing for a thick paint coating. |

That weld along with that "ding" in the frame seem to imply an accident/repair in its life. |

So if we assume that this S1 has been in a accident in its former life and they fixed it. It has a ugly weld or two ,but lets say the frame is straight and handles well. And Paul wrote that all the numbers are matching ,so what is now the problem with the bike? Or is there a registration problem because they do not know or want to know the brand Buell for there country!?? |
