The weather up here is great. Sunny and 65 with pretty strong winds today. The roads are not as bad as I thought. There is water flowing across some of them in places, but that should stop if we don't get anymore rain. The wind has done a good job of clearing the leaves off, and the gravel should be mostly clear by the end of the week. Probably can't go as fast as normal, but the weather looks like it's going to stay pretty nice. I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow. Joel |

Just came through there yesterday, interstate 40 is ... well... gone. At least a 70 foot chunk of it anyway. Rerouting at mile marker 20 (westbound), the exit there is open. The "official" alternate route is like 20 miles back to ashville, but there is a local route through that will have any self respecting bueller smiling from ear to ear and then some. My gps and mapping software showed another route that went across "ranger station road"... but we were too chicken to try it in the minivan full of already whiney kids (coming back from vacation). We took the route the locals told us was open. On a side note, the Toyota Sienna minivan handles much better now with the Buell sticker on the back window. The kids were saying "whee" the whole time, though my wife spent a lot of time with white knuckles. |

Well, the plans are once again made.. We'll be in Boone on the 21st. Then, hook up with a few of the others and ride down to Statesville to 'register' and what not, then ride back. We'll have to lap top with us, of course.. and depending on what roads and what not are like, we should be there .. well.. Not too late.. if anyones already at the host hotel, keep your eyes peeled, Gold Explorer with a Blast and an XB on a trailer. Later, |

Ivan really screwed thing up. These are from my Dad. Biltmore isn't too far south of Boone. This is why I can't stay with the folks for the Ridge Run. Sorry about the quality, BadWeB rules, ya'll understand.

Glitch, thanks for the pictures. When were these taken? Or more to the point, are there roads for us to ride on up there? |

Those were taken last week. Couldn't say about how the Ridge Ride will be affected. This is part of the Blue Ridge Parkway...

I went out yesterday, not far, just on the local roads around the house. No damage that I could find. The roads were clean, but you have to keep an eye open for gravel from driveways. We are going to take 261 over Carver's Gap, through Tennessee and over to Boone today to check out more roads. I hear that most of the Parkway is close but I don't know for sure. I assume that some one is charged with checking out the loops before we ride. Hate to come upon something like the picture above. |

Joel, Looks like most of the Blue Ridge Parkway closures in NC are well west of Boone. There are some other closures up in Virginia. Here's what they posted on Thursday (Sept. 16) at the National Parks Service webpage on the BRP: "Closures are as follows: In North Carolina, Milepost 317-408 and Milepost 412-469. In Virginia, the Parkway is closed from Milepost 0-61, Milepost 66-86, and Milepost 91-136. " Boone is around milepost 290. The BRP webpage hasn't been updated since Thursday. According to the website, you should call (828) 298-0398 for up-to-date Parkway info. I found a link to the NCDOT's website; this takes you to a clickable map for western NC: http://apps.dot.state.nc.us/tims/default.aspx?s=m Looks like most of the roads around Boone are OK. Good Luck, Hugh (Message edited by whodom on September 20, 2004) |

58 degrees huh? Yesterday was our first chilly morning here in Raleigh. I thought I would freeze on the way into work. I went and bought myself a pair of heavier gloves after work yesterday. I'm looking forward to breaking them in up there. |

Well.. We're here in Boone.. as are a few others.. Weather is great, although we've been warned it's a little cool in the mornings (hell, we're in the middle of a mountain range here). Wed, we're heading into Tilley's for the official start of the .. uh.. festivities.. Can't wait to get to some of the roads and what not around here.. Ok, I'll report in again later.. Might even take a few pictures.. maybe...If I can remember the camera.. Later, |

Hey guys- here's a piece of good news. The Tail of the Dragon website (http://www.tailofthedragon.com/) reports that the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway are both in excellent condition with no damage from the recent hurricanes. I'm looking forward to reading some ride reports from the meet. |

Shred said they were having a great time. He, Torqer and another Bueller got to ride a bit last night. I talked to him about noon and they had about 30-40 Buell's already and more coming into Tilley's by the minute. He said the roads weren't bad, they did have some dirt on 180 in the corners but it was from trailers going off the edge and spraying it back onto the roads. No debris from the storms. |

Got out of the riders meeting a little while ago. Bulistic had everyone stand up and give their real name and badweb username. That was nice, I got to put some names with some faces. Looking forward to tomorrow. |

If anyone has any info on how Pete is doing could they post it here? I thought I overheard someone say that Pete's mother worked at a spinal cord injury facility and that she was coming in and that they might bring a top surgeon up also, if needed. |

Rotchcrocket51... Pete's surgery went well. They removed the bone fragments from his back and inserted a rod for support. Although there was some damage to the spinal column, there were no cuts. Thankfully, he has said he has felt a tingling sensation in his legs. We are hoping for the best. His mother-in-law does in fact work at a spinal injury facility in Atlanta and his family is hoping to transport him there on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. There is a thread dedicated to this subject on the QuickBoard. |

Hey all, I really want to go on the ride - but I live in Colorado. I won't have the time to ride all the way out there (3000 mile round trip) or trailer it out (I'm going alone and that's a really long trip!) So... my crazy request... does anyone have an extra bike - or know of a way I can get my hands on a Buell for just that three days? I will gladly pay! Please help! Thanks so much! |
