Thanks Ivan. Had I thought about it and had the chop saw handy when I ordered the splitter, I would have ordered 2" pipe in stead and made my own splitter as it would look a lot cleaner. Truth is I was given these tools from my Dad this week due to unfortunate circumstances. I always had access to them but they were located 20 mi out of town and I didn't know how much I'd be able to do in a day. I had already borrowed the welder so it was handy, and ordered the splitter in an attempt to avoid cutting much, but scratched that idea when I realized how far apart the megaphones would actually be. The welder is a gas-less 115 amp Lincoln. I will take your advice on the settings on the next welds . |

I hear ya, well you've done good with what you got and that's what makes it fun. |

Gasless will always be "lumpy" especially on thin stock because you have to back the temp down so much. Perfect project for a tig welder! |

Yea I guess I don't really have much hands on with the gasless... I have a Clark 110 volt 130 amp (similar) with gas that I was basing what settings I would use on. Yea a tig would be fun with that setup. |

So I made a bracket yesterday, put the pipe on, rode for about an hour, and then took it off. Way too effin' loud lol. Literally twice as loud as the open header. Gonna leave it off until I can get some more stainless 2" pipe (to redo the splitter in a cleaner fashion) and find a way to add some baffles. Looks sweet though. |

Got my windshield today, yay! I also cleaned up the header a little bit since i had to take it off. I noticed yesterday that the rear pipe had vibrated an exhaust nut off, so I got some new ones. I tried to replace the studs but I couldn't for the life of me get them out. Anybody have a good trick to do so? I'd like to go ahead and replace them as a preventative measure. As hard as they are to get out now, they'll be 10x harder to get out if they break lol. the bike has 45,000 miles, though I dunno how many of those are with the T-storms. My niece decided she would wash my bike the other day.. with gutter water, so no pics until I wash it proper this afternoon . |

Looks good, glad the windscreen got there OK. You HAVE to paint or find a front fender and fairing in Red Snap. You just must. Everyone knows Red Snap is the fastest color. |

I almost traded my stock muffler for a Snap red fairing, but ended up needing the cash and selling it instead. I may reach out and try to buy it outright when I have the cash though, which is likely a possibility. I actually have a carbon fiber front fender from a Yamaha that I'm gonna trim, build brackets for, and paint red to see if I like it. I got it cheap enough to play with it. |

So I got some more gauges today, oil temp, volts, and oil pressure with sending units for $40 at Autozone. Gonna make a mock dash with cardboard and then cut it out of steel. I'm not gonna use the chrome dash pictured; it comes off easily. (Message edited by Phelan on April 26, 2014) |

Here's the dash mockup I made yesterday. I may change the layout as I'd like to add a clock, and the sides probably won't be that far out but I do want to leave enough room to add a switch or two if I find a need. As big as the S2 front fairing is I figured I'd like to make the most of it.

I just went through building a custom dash for Gloria. If you are using the stock wiring harness, I think you may have clearance problems with the 12V acc outlet. |

Thanks John, I'm aware of the plugs being in the way. I'm going to relocate them. |

No pics till tomorrow, but today I was able to de-arch the XBR mirrors I got and drill two new holes to mount them. About the same length as stock, but different shape, better boots, and new. Tomorrow I'll get started on my new dash and who knows what else! |

Finished my dash, but didn't have time to finish the mirrors. I still have to hook up the gauges, which includes figuring out where to mount the sending unit in the fuel tank and adding a bung for the temp gauge. Built it out of an old Maverick(I think?) carbon Fiber HamCam that has been hanging on my wall for years. This was not a pristine piece, so no need to feel sorry for it .

Pretty cool!!! I can't believe you got all those gauges in there. I just added a S3 clock to my dash and it was quite a chore sneaking it in. Great job! |

Thanks Jack! Yeah it took some doing. I had to enlarge the cutout in the fairing stay behind the speedo to fit the drive cable, and had to do a lot of measuring and little mods like shaving the speedo and tach cups to clear the shafts that hold the 3 mounting screws. All in all I'm satisfied with it though. I may build it have built another at some point to clean it up a little bit. |

Changed the splitter on my custom muffler last night. Originally I cut up the stamped splitter I bought and used it after I realized the exits were too far apart. It worked, but it was ugly and there was a bit of material overhang inside as it wasn't even originally a preformance piece. So I ordered some 2" stainless pipe to replace it. here's the fruits of my handiwork. I still gotta clean it up a bit and figure out how I'm going to build the baffles, but otherwise I'm pretty satisfied with the results! |

Thanks Ivan! I did the splitter the night before last, otherwise the welds would have been cleaner. Last night I was able to use the gas welder at WT after helping my wife with one of her projects (she's an art major, 3 months from having her Master's!), so the welds came out a LOT better. My little thing is about 5 years old now that I think about it; I should probably clean it out and put some new wire in it as it's about empty now anyway. |

Wow! You guys went all out with your gauges. Very nice. I just kept the basics on my panel.

Nice! I like that a lot. I tought of using aluminum, but didn't to pay for it XD. My tools are so-so anyway, not great at cutting aluminum. |

No pics yet, but I did get my front ISO changed to the new one, cleaned my air filter since it was caked in dirt from dust bowl 2.0 we had a few weeks ago, and I added baffles in my megaphones. My friend Jorge had some rock wool (amazing stuff btw) so I cut a couple squares, rolled them up tight to fit, then expanded them out. After that we cut some steel mesh, rolled it tight, and expanded it inside the pipe to hold the rock wool and tacked the mesh the end of the megaphones. There is still about 1.75" opening at the backside of each baffle. It's still loud, but not obnoxious and not as tinny as before or with the open header. Nice, deep sound. Louder than a D&D; almost Force pipe sound but no tinning. |

Also, if you saw my other thread, I added some modified XBR mirrors. |

Ross, is the "rock wool" better than coarse steel wool? I pack my SS2R with coarse OO steel wool and it sounds great, but only lasts one season, then the front third of the packing gets burned out. I used to pack it with the correct muffler packing but at a thousand miles that stuff was hosed. Does the rock wool last longer and sound as good? |

I dunno as I just put it in, but I saw my friend Jorge put a torch to it for 2 minutes in the same spot less than an inch away and no damage (just discoloration). And 1/2" behind it you couldn't feel any heat touching the rockwool even while the torch was burning. |
