Hey guys, I've recently acquired a '98 M2 and am in the process of getting her all sorted out. My question is how much should this beast vibrate (shake)? At idle this bike will move around on concrete- I can't just let it sit there without chocks under the wheels. Both tires appear to function as earthquake shocks as the frame shakes against the pavement, lol. Engine seems to run great (not rough), so if this isn't normal, I'm thinking motor mounts need replaced. What do you all think? |

There are three isolators that keep the bike frame and the engine together. If any of these motor mounts is bad you have a lot of vibration. The forward isolator is horizontally mounted just behind the steering neck. you can visually inspect the forward motor mount. There is has a long bolt that goes up through the lower bracket frame and through the middle of the forward isolator. At the rear of the bike by the foot pegs where the tubing joins there is a big circle and an allen bolt head in the middle. The allen goes through the middle of these isolators. Torn rubber here can be a cause of extreme vibration. There are several ways your HD dealer can steer you wrong on this. American Sport Bike is a most trusted source. http://www.americansportbike.com/ Riding a Buell with bad isolators is like driving a car with a tire that is almost flat, doable but unsafe. First thing you should do is get a service manual. |

These motors vibrate...a lot. Yes check your isolators for sure. My S1W will slowly walk backwards on idle on flat pavement. Fyi |

Things smooth out when on your way but, she sure can mix some paint at idle. But, definitely check the mounts and take things from there. |

Based on what I was told... Expect vibration below 3K...if you have it above 3K, something is wrong..isolators, motor mount, etc |

Awesome, thanks guys. I do have a service manual and have researched how to replace the isolators- just haven't figured out how to tell if they actually need replaced or not. Is there a picture reference or something I can compare my isolators against to see if they are worn? Is there a standard mileage that they are supposed to be replaced? It's comforting to know other's bikes walk backwards on the side stand though, lol. |

My X1 shakes at idle but only moves backwards if parked at an incline. Its actually not that bad specially when warmed up. Check your idle too. |

I turned the idle down to 950, from whatever its supposed to be, to keep my eyeballs from rattling around in my head when I was at a stoplight. Once its moving, no problem. |
