Explanation: The ECM see's battery positive voltage less than 6 volts or greater than 18 volts ... Plain AMERICAN ENGLISH: The cranking voltage is getting low(charge the battery or you need a new battery) ... 18 volts or higher usually indicates a faulty voltage regulator ... How to check these two items is in the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL for your YEAR/MODEL BUELLthat you should have(don't forget to get the PARTS BOOK) ... Check with Al at www.AmericanSportBike.com ... UP-DATES: DO NOT USE A d'ARSONAL VOM as they load the circuit being tested !!! All electrical connections should be CLEAN and TIGHT ... Battery voltage: 12.8v to 13.0v ... Charge voltage at 1000 RPM 13.0v to 15.0v ... Stator AC voltage output: 38/52 volts AC at 2000 RPM(plus check for grounded stator and stator resistance) ... If your start load voltage drops below 9 volts the starter will click which means you need a battery charge or a new battery ... REMEMBER THIS; Battery load testers KILL your battery so you can be sold a new one !!! The only load that should be ever put on your battery is the load that is put on it when you push the starter button !!! (Message edited by buellistic on April 29, 2014) |
