I bought an 09 1125CR used a couple years ago from a dealership. The bike had a K&N filter already installed and I later found out that it had an aftermarket exhaust on it when the previous owner traded it in, but the dealership installed the stock pipe before selling it. I installed a Barker exhaust on it a few weeks ago and now I was reading up and saw a few articles that said these two mods will cause the bike to run lean and that I should purchase and install the EBR ECM. My question is how can I tell if the previous owner already had that EBR ECM installed? I'm wondering if I already have the correct ECM because the bike seems like it is running anything but lean. When its idling, all I can smell is unburned fuel in the exhaust (like it was running extremely rich). Are there any markings on the ECM that would tell me if it was something other than stock; or any other characteristics that would make the bike run differently? One thing I noticed since installing the exhaust is a much higher idle when the clutch is engaged (usually around 2000 RPM). But that is about the only difference. As soon as I squeeze the clutch, the idle drops to 1400 RPM. Thanks! |

The EBR ECM will say "race use only" on it - it's mounted inside left pod (not where shown in photo).
RPM change when you pull clutch, that's normal. EBR gives better low RPM fueling and response than stocker for factory exhaust. The most common mod is to use K&N filter (stock one is OK, but K&N is reusable), EBR ECM and aftermarket exhaust. Those changes are good for 10% or so hp increase and better response across rpm range. (Message edited by Stirz007 on April 07, 2014) |
