I know this should be posted in the subforum, but I don't think that forum is viewed as much as this one, and I'm looking for as many opinions as I can get. A moderate can removed my post in the subforum if they wish. I just got off my bike from an afternoon cruise. Stopped by a friends on the way back and talked for about 25 minutes. Jumped back on the bike and hit the starter. Loud click, no bang. U0001 code posted - comm error, and "system voltage" showed next. Hit the starter again and it fired. Rode the 3 miles home. Got home, put bike in diag mode. System voltage showed 11.9v. Fired it up and it showed 12.2v. I know the battery is a junk aftermarket, and it came with the bike when I bought it. Just curious, which is more likely, battery or stator? Couldn't tell you how old the battery is. I haven't had the bike very long, and like I said, it came with it. Its O'Reilly's super start brand. |

Do you have a multimeter? If so you can run through the diagnostic guide and verify which of the two are the culprit. What does it read while cruising? |

My IC doesn't have a BAT function. Its an '08. I'm new to this bike, but I don't believe there is a way for me to test it while cruising. However testing today showed the following: Battery voltage while off: 12.3v Voltage measured while at peak starting: 9.8v (measured off bat with multimeter) Voltage measured (multimeter on bat) while running: 13.78v. IC voltage shown while running (diag mode):13.4-14.2v. I believe my IC only does the following while running: AT,CT,MPG Correct me if I'm wrong. I've had the bike less than a week and I might be missing something |

if its an '08, its more likely to be the battery. Only the '09 and '10s had the stator issue as they changed the stator to a higher output to compensate the battery drain in the '08s |

Add one of these or something like it http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waterproof-Car-12V-24V-3-3 0V-DC-Digital-Voltage-Tester-Meter-Gauge-LED-Blue- /390797002122?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessorie s&hash=item5afd51058a&vxp=mtr And you'll be able to keep track of your voltage. |

@Shawns, I'm thinking something similar temporarily using my fluke, some ring terminals, and a strap around the triples. @Bartone, Honestly I'd much rather be replacing batteries anyway. *edit* So Bartone, if I'm understanding you correctly...then a year old off brand battery is most likely shot? I text the previous owner yesterday. Bat was replaced March '13. (Message edited by brokengq on April 10, 2014) |

Broke Q...go here...scroll down for pix: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/674577.html?1336678989#POST2204828 out here in the SWest it get's HOT...restart can be an issue (especially after a gas stop) a long time ago ...I used to put headers on my cars only to find out they wouldn't start when hot - the starter needed more amps that only a big cable could provide.... on your cross post in the sub forum...Froggy could have noted the issue the 1125r has with it's Ignition switch (wiring)...look for posts from "Zac4mac" using the search function - he has some pix of his fix...a broken wire at the fairing stay/ignition switch can cause a frustrating trouble shooting effort...hope this helps |
