Today I took a ride south, following some of Bart's suggestions. I took 83 south from the Tucson area to Sonoita. That road is a little crappy at the top. Looks like it hasn't been paved in a dog's age and is full of tar snakes. Not the nasty lumpy ones like 191 a couple years ago, but still... However, about halfway to Sonoita, it gets considerably better and you can ride really fast with sweeping curves and not much traffic. There was a Border Patrol checkpoint, but they don't bother you too much on the bike. From Sonoita, I went east on 82 and then south on 90 into Sierra Vista, then south on 92 to the Coronado National Memorial. I got one more stamp for my book. I'll have to count those dudes up, because I think I'm almost at a hundred. I talked to the guy in the ranger station and asked about the road going back over the mountain toward Parker Lake. He said it was gravel, pretty hard, manageable by car, but since I was on the bike, if it wasn't an offroad bike, it might be slow going. Apparently, just two miles from the ranger station on the gravel, you get to the pass with an overlook, so I could go that far and see how I liked it. If it was too rough, I'd only have to back track the two miles rather than continue on the other 15 miles or so. I decided to try it out. Unlike my last experience, it wasn't raining at all today or at all lately, so no chance of soaked muddy ground. The pass: The first sections were a bit tricky, with lots of larger chunky gravel, but soon enough it smoothed out and there was really just hard packed dirt. If it had rained and soaked up a lot of water, it would have been squishy, but it was pretty good today. No photos of that bit. It only took me a little under an hour to go the 17 miles or so on the gravel/dirt road. Lots of great scenery too, but I was pretty focused on the road and didn't bring the good camera. Or even the ok camera. Just the phone. Once I got to Parker Lake and hit the pavement, it reminded me a lot of that section by Black Lake in NM, between Angel Fire and Mora. One plus lane of unstriped crappy asphalt, a few random farms scattered in there, and not much traffic. Some fun curves but lots of crumble on the edges. Once you get to the striped part, there was some nice curves, but eventually the road looks like it has seen too many RVs because it's wrinkled and has tons of potholes. Some are pretty sizable, too... enough to take you off the bike if you weren't careful. I made it back to Sonoita easy enough and gassed up for the slab back to Tucson. Kind of sucks because my apartment is very far from the freeway. Not that I need to get on the freeway much, but it makes getting into and out of town faster. There must be 50 traffic lights in between. About the only thing that makes it cool is riding past the boneyard. Here's the route:

I'm planning a ride out to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument this Saturday. Mostly highway type miles, but that's what it takes to get there. It's all two laners to get out there. It's also very close to Mexico. |

Hey guys, Larry emailed me and he is in town this weekend picking up his new EBR. I was thinking maybe we could get together Sunday and meet up for breakfast or lunch somewhere? Any interest? |

Just let us know. Priscilla rode the RX 110 miles this afternoon. Had a O2 sensor fault, ended up being the stabilized shipping gas. Added more, rode some, added more and good to go.

Also, I am up at Bart's friend Andre's. He is opening an independent shop, 6013 w. GLENDALE in mid may. He is a Buell tech, was also chief mechanic for harley racing Canada. Built race motors for Andrews Xb. |

Good to see Larry and his family and their family of Buell's. Twin peaks was awesome as always and my burger was great. Mark and I rode down to Bartlett lake and back, was a nice fun/fast ride. Mark got a performance award coming back into cavecreek for a sweet passing on the right maneuver. Other than that it was an awesome ride. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h94/xtreme6669/M obile%20Uploads/image_zpscfad6152.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h94/xtreme6669/M obile%20Uploads/image_zpsd220abb7.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h94/xtreme6669/M obile%20Uploads/image_zps74fd6ce9.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h94/xtreme6669/M obile%20Uploads/image_zps9b06d834.jpg |

Thanks for handling that Jody. Rex, the new RS is really cool. It's VERY alike the RX minus all the carbon. The dash is much different but still really cool. Seat looked much more comfortable too. Looks like many of the parts are interchangeable. |

OK folks first Monday is coming quickly . Can we meet up a little early and ride to Casa Grande?? Or is this a bad idea and we should meet up and eat here?? It has been suggested that first Monday is not the best time for everyone and maybe we should do a Saturday afternoon or Sunday afternoon meet up some times. Are we open to suggestions?? Input is very limited here and on the texts.. This is all our group so we should all have input to move forward. Please text or email or respond in some form so we can make plans for Monday and or the day of your choice.. Mark |

Or both......could set up the first monday of each month for those that want a location or date that never changes, and have special meet up times on saturday and sunday. Okay with me.....for consistency, it is always good to have one date everyone knows about? Just a thought. up to the group I know saturdays and sundays are almost always tied up doing other things.... |

Hey, when I met Rick Hatch some time ago (EBR dealer in Tempe), he said he wanted to bring the EBR Transporter to Phoenix for bike week for demo rides, etc. I see that the following week it will be in Austin at AF1 Racing. Any word if it really is coming to Phoenix? |

I haven't heard that EBR would be here but I know they are supposed to be doing a lot of demo rides at wild horse pass for bike week. I'm in for this Monday in cg. I'm also good with an early meet up to ride down together. I've not been down that back way to casa grande so I'm not sure what would make a good meeting spot. |

I'm going to have to wave off. My wife is in town for a visit and since I only see her once a month or so, I'll be spending the time with her. She didn't bring any riding gear or I would just bring her. I'll meet up with you guys next time. If there are any other rides planned, let me know and I'll see what I can do about a day off of work to attend. |
