Is there an easy way to clear the check engine light and stored codes? I got a bunch of codes from turning my engine over without the fuel pump and fans plugged in. |

You can use TunerPro RT to clear the codes, but if you don't have that and the cable handy, I wouldn't bother. It will clear after 50 starts if the issue does not reoccur. |

Froggy - I just purchased a cable to connect to the bike. I want to be able to diagnose my 08XT to try and resolve my idling issue and set the TPS on my sons 04R. I have been looking at ECMSpy, Tunerpro and TunerPro RT. Will TunerPro work or am I better to get the RT version. What are your thoughts? |

Basic TunerPro won't do TPS resets and some other things. The RT version cost something like $40 to register, but you can use it without paying. |

If you have an Android phone you can get ECMDroid and with a bluetooth cable you can go in and clear codes. Also, on http://xoptiinside.com/ there is a link with the program and instructions for setup. I think there is a writeup of instructions for getting the files you need to clear codes. |

I do not mind paying for software. I just want to use the correct software for the application. Froggy , do you prefer TunerPro RT better than ECMSPY? I have an IPhone so droid will not work. |

The old free ECMspy ain't worth using anymore these days, too many issues with the newer bikes and it doesn't play well with EBR ECMs on the older ones either. The newer paid version of ECMspy, I honestly can't comment on it, I've played with the demo, it looks cool but given that it won't let you hook up to a bike I really can't get a feel for the program. It does appear to be easier to use than TunerPro, but that is about all I can say for it. TunerPro is very powerful, it has a steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you can do anything, way beyond what I've seen can be done in ECMspy. The RT version has a nag screen that comes up during startup, but you can pay to eliminate it. |

Hey Frogs, Can you give some of us 'ol types a run down on hardware platforms & software to use for maintaining these beasts, My '25 has decided to increase the idle bump up with the bike in gear it was about 17~1800, now crowding 2000 rpm... presuming no vacuum leaks ( perhaps wrong ) |

Probably the clutch switch, go in to diagnostics, clutch state, and see if it changes from 0 to 1 as you pull and release the clutch, easy to dismantle and clean as it is mechanical as well, one time I had this happen it was the butterfly valve in the (front for me) throttle body had got slightly off center and did not close fully when warm, loosen the two screws re-center and tighten and problem fixed, a couple of easy things to check anyway. |

Oldog, the TunerPro RT software will run on just about any Windows computer out there. I currently use a Windows 8 tablet for it. You just need to buy or build the ECM interface cable if you don't have one yet. http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/A9317 http://www.ecmspy.com/kabel_pc.shtml As for your idle issue, it is likely the clutch switch as mentioned above. The bike raises the idle when in gear with the clutch out to make it easier to take off, but if your switch is not working it can think the clutch lever is released when it wasn't. |
