Cool ! Pretty much an exact copy of what was proposed in 1997 and squashed by Harley-Davidson. I was an advocate, from the day we started the effort at M.I.T., to make such a package available to customers where they could page through parts manuals, "point, click and purchase" . . .and have stuff show up at their door with the dealer's cut being credited to the closest dealer by zip code. Two things happen: FIRST - When it's this easy to buy, I'd expect buying to increase. SECOND - It allows (this is moot now) the parts manuals to constantly be kept up to date. >(Always pissed me off that we sold a $30 part manual and that the 17 revisions we did during the year were never communicated to the purchaser of the manual) Very nice. I take some satisfaction in seeing this done so well. . . . . . . after 15 years. |

H-D need people to come to their dealerships. They always had the mindset that the Buell you just bought will prepare you for a roadkingglideflh9000chromecustomdark. Like wanting a bike that was quick , light and could handle was just a phase I would outgrow. |

Twin Motorcycle's project is killer !! I would visit a H-D dealership: IF they had the parts on hand [as if!] or IF they were knowledgeable enough about Sportsters to help me accurately order parts fortunately, local retailer Dud Perkins orders what parts I request, but they're pretty much unfamiliar with my M2 when it comes to a problem Thank Goodness for BadWeb & Al at American Sport Bike !! |

Thanks for the head's up people, it was really a very big project for a small company like us. We are going to use this to set up Twin Motorcycles Franchise company's around the World. They can use our name and software to run there business around the world. We are developing a huge back office application to run a parts company logistic (that was my old job) developing software and then the very complicated logistic systems. We are not able to help all Buellers around the world so we setup local franchise company's in different country's to get this working. We still need a lot of time and effort but every day we get closer to all Buellers in the world with helping them to get parts. |

Very Cool! Court, we may have crossed paths on the project you mentioned. Back in 1997(ish) while working for SGI, we were providing the workstations, supercomputers and Video walls to HD's design center (I used to have the Deskside Onyx2 with breather, pipes and flames in my labs). One of the hush hush projects was a 3D parts manual made possible by the (then) amazing O2. Due to the cost of the O2 at the time, they would only be available inside the HD dealership, but would have been a "self service" station. HD eventually nixed it and made us destroy all of the materials. It was pretty cool in that you could click on the engine, hit a button and it would disassemble before your eyes and show every single part. Click on a part and it would show you every bit of information about it including pricing, availability, and any recall or replacement info. Not sure what happened to the IP. |
