Im still wondering if 1 of us had claimed to be a 20 yr old black male if Obi would have listened to us? Hell Ralph told him what to do, & yet no response. Maybe Obi is prejudiced against old guys? "I dont wanna be seen on no grandpa bike". Hey Obi, I will be 42, have 2 grandsons & I ride an R1. So even if you get a Litre bike you will still be on a grandpa ride |

Stop looking at the XBs Obioma . Get yourself a Tuber. Go old school. You can get an awesome tuber for $4000 -"How much you want to spend". I like the XBs, but the tubers are awesome. (27 yrs. old) |

I ride with a friend who is 66 and has been through the Goldwing thing and now owns a RC51 and a CBR100rr and has bought a new sport bike every year for the last ten years. He also does track days, so who cares about age, let's ride and have fun. This is a motorcycle forum/site right? |

I have to agree with Glitch. There is no known reason why anyone "should" buy a Buell (I know it's a little out of context). Check this out. I am 26 yrs old. I have been drooling over Buells since '95 when I saw my first S1. It's not something you try to understand. It just is. The bike just appeals to some people. That's how it was for me. I didn't test ride, didn't think about it, didn't second guess myself after I bought it. I made the decision based on lust and lust alone. Every minute of the ride home was pure extasy. Most of the people I hang with don't understand. And to tell you the truth, I love every minute of it. I wouldn't have it any other way. If you got to know me you would understand, I can be a little strange at times. Buells are not for you if you can't feel it. You will know if you want the Buell. I could have gotten any Repli-bike out there. They didn't appeal to me. I fell for the Buell a long time ago. It is a love affair that my girl still doesn't understand.... probably never will. Go for what your gut tells you. If you buy the repli-bike, it still won't stop us from being us and talkin' with you anyway. Hell, I'll still wave, I don't care what you ride.... as long as you ride. Rich Read carefully...[ext asy]1. The state of being beside one's self or rapt out of one's self; a state in which the mind is elevated above the reach of ordinary impressions, as when under the influence of overpowering emotion; an extraordinary elevation of the spirit, as when the soul, unconscious of sensible objects, is supposed to contemplate heavenly mysteries. |

"You can get an awesome tuber for $4000" Lately that $4000 will get a nice older Buell and enough left over for a full set of leathers. |

My responses have been a bit derisive. I'm just posting to state that I realize this and that it was not the goal. It's just that the metrics do not inspire me, not anymore anyway. I'd had a longing for a VFR but was never moved to an actual purchase. Honda never imported their CBR400RR - that would'a had me. The sheer over population of the Ninja is a turn-off despite this year's models being quite beautiful. Especially in blue over black. Always wished I had purchased my first bike a year later so I could have been hooked by a Yamaha FZR400. They all just blend together though. Never going beyond the "that's nice but..." And then, out of nowhere, the XB9R. America had finally woken. The beauty of it was that it was not some half hearted attempt to join the market. To be a one of. This thing exuded the lore of a skunkworks project of Area 51 proportions. Like we (America via Erik) had said, ok Japan, you've done alright, but "this is the way we think it should be". It made a big impression on me in that it was not even just our improved version, but loaded with innovation and radical thinking. "Atypical" is the only bestest word that still floats to the top. It is and is not, at the same moment, right and unholy to be slipping thru the air on thumping, grinding beauty and beast rolled into one. The ability of a machine to cause someone to conjur such feelings. That, is a Buell. It does this to you, or it does not. If it does not, so be it. One more for us to enjoy. I think if it was just about cash&performance there wouldnt be a Harley on the road. For me, the XB9s has all the poop I'll ever use. I like riding something a bit different. (my other ride is 850 Norton) It isnt just about the numbers! oh, ya... 40's wasp. |

"I think if it was just about cash&performance there wouldnt be a Harley on the road. " Or on the other hand if that were the case then tradition wouldn't drive the design and the bikes we'd have on the showroom floor now would be something totally different. Harley is in the business of survival, and when their customer focus shifts even more then their product offerings will shift as well, if they can shift fast enough to keep up with the migration. |

Thats probably true, although with all the Japanese pretenders, it doesnt seem Harley will need to change their focus anytime soon. (if you can deem the Vrod within tradition) |

Even the Jap V-Rods spank HD on price and performance. Note we are only speaking of price and performance as in speed and handling, not any other objective or subjective measurements of value. No history, no nostalgia, no buy American, no design or metallurgical analysis, no aftermarket, no HOG, etc... |

40 year old white guy chimes in from alaska: After my second test ride on the xb I had an overpowering desire to own the bike. I thought about it constantly, couldnt sleep, etc. total obsession. I now have 9400 miles on my Lightning, and still having a bunch of fun with it. For me it is the perfect street bike. That said, I can think of only a single reason that you should own a Buell, and that is desire. If you want it bad enough you will obtain it. If you dont, then you dont need me to tell you anything. |

I don't understand threads like this. It's like screaming "All your women are ugly" in an unfamiliar bar and then demanding they prove you wrong. |

I plan on being the oldest racer in F-USA in Vegas in September - ON A BUELL too (besides the SV is still wadded up) Ride what you want to ride and don't get sucked into comparing spec sheets because you'll NEVER have the best bike for yourself that way. The Buell makes NO sense at all by any "conventional" selection criteria... I own 2 Buells, race one. |

Is there any other bike out there that holds it's value like a Harley? To the best of my knowledge none that are in mass production. Then again, that is all contingent on supply and demand. Take away the other factors that I mentioned were not included in the price and performance analysis and the resale value of a Harley will drop like a rock. |

I think Harley resale values will go down soon as the exclusivity goes down because they are flooding the market. I remember the waiting list days.......no more........ |

Odie...That was the prognostication for HD's Post-100th Anniversary sales. Was the doom and gloom forecast from as early as 2000. However, new bike sales still seem to be growing strong. There is a glut of used bikes in the local (Milwaukee) market but used prices seem to be holding as well. I think in the long run, it is safe to say the HDI appears to be (like Buell) different in every sense and that they are somewhat immune to the classic corporate patterns the analysts keep trying to fit them into. Says a lot for their top management, eh? |

Obi - use the force! Don't buy a lousy Buell, they suck! Get a new ZX-10 instead! I got a piece of crap XB9 Lightning last year. I hated all 16,000 + miles I put on it. I took it down to the dragon a couple of times. Every time I started off with other riders they would seem to slow down in the curves and I'd be left all alone. It was like they didn't want to ride with me. It really hurt my feelings. Also the bike really sucked because it never broke, so all I got to do to it was the occasional maintenance. Bikes are better when you get to work on them alot, right? But even that sucked, because the maintenance was so cheap I didn't feel like I was spending enough money to really get a feel for the motorcycling experience. Friggin' piece of crap...I wanted to get rid of it so bad I actually traded it for an '04 XB12 Firebolt. That one sucks even worse! I took it on a crazy ride about 3 weeks ago in the hills of S.E. Ohio with 9 other riders. 3 ZX-10's 2 R1's, a couple of gixxers. I was so jealous of them. Once I got that piece of crap Buell moving it just couldn't slow down enough to stay behind them in the corners, so I kept having to pass them. Every time we came to a stop I'd apologize, I felt so bad about it. But it just kept happening! It was really scary. Sometimes I'd have to go inside, and sometimes if I really couldn't get it slowed down (the brakes absolutely suck) I'd have to pass them on the outside with my knee against the pavement hoping I could slow the thing down. I'm telling you, Don't buy one, they are dangerous pieces of crap |

Well, I'm 27... All I can say is it's taken me 10 years to go from 250 4 stroke road (GPX250), 250 two stroke Proddy (MC21 NSR250), 600 4 stroke road (R6), 600 single dirt (TTR600), 2 stroke SuperMoto (KTM EXC200, Custom)... That's 10 years to find the right motorcylce for me. Ride what suits you. If you ride what I ride just 'cos I like it and am passionate about my XB12S/R, well, everyone would ride an XB12S/R and I'd have to go and find something different... See, you not only have to love riding your bike, but you have to look at it, too. I loved riding mine so much that I bought it even though I thought the 'S' tail needed attention. But I fixed that. Now the bike is perfect. For me. That's what's important. Go and buy a Jap bike. They are "better", for everyone who wants to have the fastest bike on paper. Oh, and owning a Buell takes a special kind of person. If you like big V8 leaded petrol drinking, wildly cammed engines... Well, you can see where I'm going... |
