Ok, not really a smackdown... This is a cross post from the Big, Bad and Dirty forum, looking for wisdom here... I'm looking at motorcycles and have located a couple of low mile <10K Uly 08 and 09 (both XT versions) for less than $6K. Yesterday an acquaintance told me he knew of an 02 S3T with 10,000 miles perfectly stock. A garage queen all of it's life. It's cheap, I can get it for $3000 or I can spend twice as much on the Uly. Is the Uly worth twice the price of the tuber? I have owned an S3T before, put lots of trouble free miles on it after I replaced the stock rear shock and the stock front motor mount. I'm just tapping into the collective wisdom of the board, plus I have a little time to kill before the game starts.. |

Well you are comparing too completely different animals like apples to watermelons. My first thought is there may be many items on the tuber that need attention and upgrading the Uly not so much so do you want a project or do you just want a good ride? |

Apples to watermelons, gotta remember that.. I like working on bikes, I've upgraded every bike I've ever owned. These will be no different... |

As long as it is not DNF Green, I would take the S3T Otherwise the Uly... |

The S3T will be more fun but the Useless is a better bike. I don't think you'll go wrong either way. |

Uly it is, mainly cause I found an 09 and bought it for 4500... pretty stoked about that! Now all I need is to get it shipped here and ride! |

Congrats. Sounds like a great deal! Now would you care to disclose details on the S3? |

I've got a 2009 XB12X, Ulysses, not the XT version and a 2001 S3T. Both great bikes! Different tools for different jobs. Barry Hollister, CA |

Buelltours, sorry that one sold too. There is another nice S3T in Seattle on Craigslist. It was second on my list.. http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/mcy/4267761449.h tml |

The S3T on Seattle Craigslist is sweet - I've seen it, and am buying it tomorrow. It'll be the third S3T in my collection. |

From what I saw in the pics it looked very nice. Glad it's going to a good home... |

I think of it this way: If there was a nice XB12XT in the driveway parked next to an equally nice S3T with $3,000.00 cash in the saddlebag, which one would I rather have? Simple. I would take the S3T and $3,000.00 in cash for important stuff like gas tires, beer, and a few upgrades and I would still have some cash left over to waste. |

Dave, what it came down to was a nice XB12X and an equally nice S3T with $1500 in the saddlebag... I took the XB12X. All the upgrades I'd be likely to add to the Uly were already done. (Drummer, ECM, tall and short windscreens, service and parts manuals, full luggage) Now all I need is riding weather! |
