Dealer stripped the threads on the Primary Chain inspection cover on my 03 xb9s. If anyone knows of an XB primary cover for sale, let me know. | ||

Get the dealer to replace it if one of their ham-fisted techs did the damage | ||

Thats exactly what happened. I am trying to get them to replace it...we'll see. Backup plan is to buy one (not from that dealer), and install it myself so I know the work is done correctly. | ||

I had two primary cover bolts, and two derby cover bolts strip out as well. I have *never* put them on without a torque wrench, and never ham fisted anything, and they stripped out anyway. It's just soft aluminum, and I have probably had that stupid primary cover off 15 times. Granted, the chain inspection cover is a tough one to explain stripping, but stuff happens, it could have been a relatively honest mistake. | ||

Doesn't matter whether the mistake was honest or not, they did the damage , they should replace ..shouldn't be a matter of 'trying' to get the to !! | ||

Hee Hee. You must be new around here  The dealer can, by in large, screw you over very effectively if they so choose, regardless of if they are right or wrong. Pick your battles (and your dealers) carefully. I could go on about the issues I have had with dealers. I've won some, I've lost most. Are you willing to take it to court and spend 100 hours of your time and $2000 in fees to resolve a technical problem that could be fixed with a $15 heli-coil kit and 30 minutes? It's none of my business though, and it's hard to imagine an innocent mistake stripping the chain inspection cover bolts. But the more I work on my bike, being careful and methodical, but still having "stuff happen", the more slack I am willing to cut the average dealer mechanic. They should still try and make it right, but I should try and be reasonably flexible in my solution domain. But again, it's none of my business. | ||

It's none of my business either..but advising somebody to rollover when it was clearly somebody else's mistake is incorrect , and as far as average is concerned ...average what ...intelligence level , forearm power. ..and no ,I am not particularly new here, the way I look at it is if you let them have too much slack in the first place ..the slacker they get |
