Sorry if I missed this in all the exchanges but could someone help me understand why would anyone spend $600 for this item? Aside from the cosmetic improvement - which could be worth the money for some, will this tank lower the oil temperature? Are the plastic tanks cracking or leaking? Don't recall anyone reporting any incidents. I also don't understand how the extra capacity is necessarily a good thing since the bike tends to puke the extra oil. The funny thing is I'd probably paint mine black if I got one since I don't care much for shiny stuff on the bike...Again, not trying to bash the idea, just asking. |

Aluminum dissipates heat better than plastic and the puking would be dependent upon where the return and breather lines attach in relation to the desired oil level. If the oil capacity is the same as the stock item I'll take a pass and hope the plastic oil bags hold up over time. |

Likewise Steve, my S1 tank was a pain to get in but I put it down to the difficulty in getting it to fit due to its shape, capacity, and clearance of the hugger, though mine didn't clear the hugger and was never going to. I cut windows in the hugger, ever bigger ones at that. In the end I took it off and loved the look. Eventually I put the X1 arm in anyway so the need for a rear hugger became obsolete anyway. I know Metmachex had issues getting the shape right for clearance so I suspect your issues are likely shared by many. It is what it is in the end. An attractive alloy tank which will make little to no difference what so ever to the oil or the engine. Will foul the hugger likely. Will fade in a year or less and not really shine like a diamond ever after. And it won't make a ha'porth of difference to the puke issue if your bike already pukes. And yes I have tried several configurations of breather piping and routing too and currently use a one way Crank vent valve in the breather line just before the exit as I'm convinced once the puking happens a syphon effect sucks more out! Is it worth it? Well, if you have a Buell with some cool parts fitted then there's no reason not to have the tank. But if you've a stock Buell and don't give a shite for bling, the plastic tank will suffice. Incidentally I do know of one plastic tank that leaked oil when it split near a mounting. I know this to be fact as I gave the owner of said S1 my plastic tank. Rocket in England |

No one ever said Buell owners are sain in fact we make some poor choices all the time with what we pay for those special touches! But its still awesome and fun! Here is Illeagles Buell cant see it in this pic but the aluminum oil tank is there too. Most of us are of our Rockers and should be commited. (Message edited by S1owner on December 29, 2013) |

Hi Sean, last price I had from Metmachex was £287, or about $500. That would be plus shipping. Metmachex did do a mod to prevent clashing, specifically for Maz (or for anyone else if they specifically asked for it). |

Be interested to see the mod they did Pash. I didn't think one like mine could get any narrower!! Rocket in England |

FWIW, my Metmachex tank on my old X1 started leaking at the lower mounting mounting holes so I included the stock oil bag with the bike when I sold it. Nothing is perfect, I guess. No issues with the one on my old S3. |
