apparently i got lost just to make sure i need an answer to a question for anyone. the timing mark on stator/rotor will be TDC for the front as i set the cams to that and rotate engine 270 for the rear TDC and set the cams there RIGHT? |

I don't think the timing mark on the stator is necessary at all. Keep in mind that the crank has two alignment holes in the counterweight, one for TDC front and the other for TDC rear. These holes are for the crank locking tool. |

yes but what i meant was i lost the timing between both cylinders im positive that the front was correct but i believe i rotated the crank too far forward to set the cams. the book calls that once you find front TDC which the marks on crank and balancer should line you, than you rotate 270 and there you'll find the rear TDC with the crank tool to set the cams. just wanted to make sure that was correct. it better to be safe than sorry. ive encountered too many brain farts. may be old age or wife not sure yet |

I believe you are correct about 270 degrees. However, I'm getting on the geezer side of life. You're best to get a service manual to be on the safe side! |

Oh yeah, don't be 270 degrees out! I did that, ouch I can't find in the service manual where it addresses this. Let me find the advise that was posted here, and I'll copy it for you. It worked for me |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/713397.html?1375196458 ..yes, but first find TDC (on the compression stroke) of the FRONT cylinder ( per manual pg 3-34, (Fig 3-56) the cam lobes (Front Cylinder)should be pointing to the front of the engine)- THEN rotate the engine CCW 288 degrees use the locking tool to positively keep the engine at TDC...from the manual - there is a pix on page 3-34 (fig 3-58) showing the rear cylinder's cam lobes pointing to the rear of the engine..it is most important to make sure the FRONT cylinder is at TDC on the COMPRESSION STROKE ( Cam lobes point forward) BEFORE the 288 deg.s CCW and then correctly time the rear cylinder's cams. |

I am in a situation that the rear cams are correct and I can lock the crank when the rear cams are pointed to the back of the bike. How many degrees do I turn the motor over to get to the compression crank lock position for the front cyl? I think once I get there I can start fresh and line everything up using the marks on the cams and cam gears and the manual. Any tips are appreciated. |
