Below is a website for a company called UFO that makes these simple devices that install under the throttle slide on carburetors. I hang out with 2 stroke dudes on other mc forums and these are pretty popular. Most who use them claim real improvements in power and especially throttle response. I was wondering if anyone has used something similar to this for the carb model Buells? If so, what were your results? http://www.thunderproducts.com/u_f_o.htm |

The UFO parts are for Mikuni VM cable-operated slide carbs, not Kehin CV vacuum-operated slide carbs like the CV 40 on our Buells. Mikuni VM cable-operated slide carbs have an open area under the slide that can disrupt flow as shown in the diagram on the UFO website. When I raced RD Yamahas some tuners filled the underside of their slides with epoxy to smooth the same area that the UFO part fills. Kehin CV carbs have a much better shape on the bottom of the slide so that is not a problem. |

Thanks Dave, that makes a lot of sense. Never seen a Buell carb, so I didn't know if it had the same issue as the smaller Mikunis. Can you show us any pics of you racing RD's? I always loved RD's, my first street bike was a 78 RD400. I also have a 79 Daytona waiting to be worked on, in addition to a few Kawie triple 500's. |
