Problem- 4th gear bog down/or throttle chop on acceleration around 4k rpm. I just picked this bike up, and absolutely love it, huge difference from the 1125r that I owned prior to buying this beast. Its a beautiful bike, However, I cant seem to understand why it would have this bog down. Anybody have any insight? Prior owner told me it has the ecm/spy software. D&D, with breather. Recent dyno tune and mapping at GOE harley. Cant wait to dig in and learn everything I can from you guys about this X1.

Sounds like previous owner or the shop did not set the TPS correctly. Bike must be up to operating temp BEFORE TPS is reset. If you have ECMspy, you also should have received the cable to connect your DTC (diagnostic trouble code) connector to a USB port on your laptop. If you do not have the cable, find your DTC connector (4 pin connector), it's located behind the steering stem OR under the seat. Either way, with the ignition off, hold the connector with the lock at the 12 o'clock position and jumper the two right pins, top one and bottom one. Now, move to where you can observe the "CEL" (check engine light) located within your tach, switch the ignition to on (make sure your right control kill switch is on too) and count the number of flashes the DTC light gives you, then a pause, then the second set of flashes. It may or may not give you any flashes. Count the first set, pause, then count the second set. There may be multiple DTC codes stored. Then look in your FSM (field service manual for the DTC code chart. You may also want to use some propane (unlit) and run that around your intake seals at the cylinders and also around the air intake seal. And, you may have an exhaust leak(s). Very good info, Ill see what I can do! Unfortunately he did not provide the cables or any software(if there is any) Ill give that a shot and see what I come up with. I did notice a little white smoke rising from the right side, intake area, maybe an exhaust leak? Thanks for the advice! |

Alpha, Previous owner should have given you a disk with ECMspy on it. Cable can be bought from Al at American Sport Bike. He also has field service manuals. Make sure you follow torque specs EXACTLY. If you don't know, ask this board. If you decide to "snug up" the exhaust stud nuts, soak them overnight with PB Blaster to ensure they won't bind while following the correct torque spec. Just ordered the FSM, Im sure that would be one step in the right direction! -I noticed that while going through the gears up to 4-5k rpm each, the symptom does not occur. Only when I am in 4th at a low rpm and increase throttle through the entire gear does this chop happen. Ill start with the DTC's and post an update with results. Thanks again bud! |

Just wanted to update that Ive contacted the previous owner and he is mailing me the ECMspy disk and cable. As soon as it arrives ill post the results. |
