I was trying to find a rear stand for my '08. When I described the location and size of the small spools on the arm, the sales person told me that was an '09 swingarm. I guess the dumb-azzed look on my face led him to explain that the Eric Buell assembly line would place an '09 arm on when they ran out of the '08 hardware. Anyone else noticed this? |

Yes, I have an '08 with a Diamond Blue swingarm with factory spool bosses. I have not seen another, but since I bought the bike used, the PO could have needed a replacement. I find it hard to believe someone would go to the trouble of buying an '09 swingarm and having it powdercoated to match, especially when my bike did not even have spools installed on it!

While I've personally never seen that before, it is not unheard of, as Buell has changed parts in the middle of a production year before. If you don't mind me asking, what month were your bikes built in, and what are the last 4 digits of your VIN? |

I have an '08 with the spool option on mine and that is only because I had the swingarm replaced under warranty in 2010. It's the same blue color as the original. |

What happened to your swingarm that called for replacement under warranty? Just curious. |

Ron47 - That is not a factory installed spool, that looks like one of the aftermarket ones like D_adams sold |

That's not one of mine, those are smaller than the ones I had. Here's a crash test review of mine. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/585096.html?1281560088 |

Freespirits used to sell a kit to put spools on an 08 - but it looks like they've dropped it as it's no longer on their website ... |

I just checked my 08, also an April 08, VIN 2082, it does not have the spools. Our bikes were likely built on the same day. Johndb, are you the original owner? It seems most likely that your swingarm was replaced at a later date, as otherwise we would know of more bikes with the spools if they indeed switch the part several months before the 09s started being produced. |

Mine was replaced under warranty because the dealer that did the recall for the fuel vent line, did it wrong which caused the fuel to constantly drip on the swingarm. This caused the paint to be affected permanently. I went to a different dealer to see if I could have the cali can installed so it would stop and they said the original work was done improperly and would have the swingarm replaced. I immediately installed the cali can myself just in case so this wouldn't happen again. The swingarm looks identical as Johndb's and '09 and newer just with the diamond blue paint color so I would assume, Johndb's had his replaced at a later time like mine was. |

My 08 has a diamond blue swingarm with the spool bosses but I know it was replaced by the dealer after a wreck, seeing as I got the old one when I bought the bike. |

As I'm not the original owner, I have no knowledge of how my bike ended up with a different swingarm. So if a dealer ordered a swingarm today for replacement, they would be able to get a blue '09 style part with spool bosses (because all swingarms built after a certain point would have the bosses)? |

John, I believe you are correct. Unless somehow there was old stock of an original 08 swingarm. Should be able to tell by the part number if a revision has been made. |

Hi guys, I have an early production 09. The swing arm is black but the mounting bosses are welded on and not cast in. I am guessing that they just welded up the old 08 arms until they ran out of them. |
