  Sweeet piece of tail Parts: 1. Buell tail piece part number M0613.1AD This slightly damaged piece was taken off a wreck by JohnyXB9 for his own use, but his bike was stolen before he could work on it. Thanks John 2. Buell Tail light assembly Y0401.1AD 3. K&S Mini Turn signals: these are the ones that are available all over the place. I decided to use these units because they are prone to damage, and thus easily replaced. I also fitted them to the front. $20 pair 4. Kuryakyn illuminated license plate frame part number # 9167 $40.00 5. Plate holder: Gerry and I had to make this ourselves out of sheet aluminum which was painted satin Black. The template is available if anyone wants it. 6.Paint: Krylon OSHA Safety yellow #1183 I envied those nice looking Buells that had had their “cheese graters” removed, but I didn’t fancy spending about $400 for the Rizzona parts. So like any self respecting Buelligan, I decided to do it myself . Luckily my pal Gerry Schwenck volunteered to help and ended up doing all the hard stuff, and JohnyXB9 and Dave Stuebe supplied the Buell parts. Fellow Sag Harbor MC member, Peter Noyes contributed the Kuryakyn license plate holder. First Gerry amputated the cheese grater with a Sawsall, then the remaining piece was shaped by hand with a small cut off saw and a hand grinder. Then the remaining casting was lightly sandblasted, primed and painted with Krylon OSHA Safety Yellow #1183 which closely matches the Buell Yellow. I had previously used this paint on my Buell frame pucks, so I knew the color was a pretty good match. Other Buelligans may prefer silver or the color of their own plastic. The part was baked at 220 degrees in my oven for six hours after each coat, which added luster, and made the paint much harder. I sanded with 220 grit sandpaper between all four coats. Next the holes were drilled for the turn signals in the casting, and the inboard ends of the turn signals were ground off to fit properly on the casting. There was a slight interference between the right turn signal and the mount for the vertical sensor, which was slightly cut away. Then the plate holder was fitted to the casting, and it was mounted using three 6mm bolts. Next the turn signals and the Kuryakyn license plate holder assembly was mounted, and the tail light assembly installed. Then the seat was removed, the old cheese grater removed, the new one installed, the electrics connected, and that is pretty much all there was to it. Like? Gentleman, you beat me posting the mod!!! I did mine over the hurricane weather and it sits home drying as we speak. I'm putting it together tomorrow morning and will post pic's ASAP. I made it a tad bit cleaner though as far as license plate mount goes. Yours looks very good though!! I also didn't want to spend $350-$400. I'l post pic's in the AM...........Odie | ||

Please forgive my ignorance, but I'm not clear on the details of the Buell tail piece part number M0613.1AD. Is this the stock cheese grater piece that you modified somehow, or is this an OEM rear fender elimination kit? Thanks in advance. -- | ||

The Buell Part number is the casting that comes stock on every XB Lightning. We modified it by cutting off the arms that support the cheese grater and turn signals so it looked like this:  | ||
