Does anyone know what the swing arm is finished with? Is it powder coat, plasma or something else? Thanks for the help. |

I want to say it is just plain cast aluminum. |

I dunno. My 2001 S3 sure looks and washes like bare cast aluminum. Was there a difference between years? |

Early arms were sand cast. I don't know when they made the change. |

My 99 was coated with something, probably powder. I sanded it off when I smoothed the finish prior to powder coating it to match the body work. |

Powdercoat was used on all the Aluminum swingarms. IIRC, there were 3 versions; sand cast, semi-permanent mold #1, and semi-permanent mold #2. IIRC, the powder was close to - if not the exact same - the H-D engine silver powdercoat. I know we had touch up cans of the H-D color, that I think were used for touching up swingarms as well. My 99' S3 is definitely not powder coated or it would clean easier and not stain. |

Yeah it is (or was from the factory) it's just that it's over a sand cast finish, so the texture grabs a lot of dirt. That's why I sanded it smooth before re-coating. |
