Ok doing ignition switch today also handgrips. I have never done hand grips, any tips on how to take off and install them with out breaking the throtle side that's my main concern thanks guys. | ||

The throttle side grip will come off with the throttle tube etc so is easy. If you are changing grips then cut the original off the throttle tube. The clutch side is glued to the bar, so either cut it off (if you are replacing them completely), or gently prise it off running a small knife/screwdriver between the grip and bar. | ||

I think he meant: Loosen cables, Disassemble the throttle assembly, grip and throttle tube will come off as a unit. If you just pull on it, you're going to break something, or something. A heat gun will soften the glue if you have trouble getting the grips off. And, like he said, careful prying with a small screwdriver will help break the seal - usually after a few sends with a heat gun, they come pretty easily. | ||

I've found the best way to remove grips, no matter how well they are glued on, is to unload your bike from a trailer with a neighbor helping (and preferably a pretty girl watching). Unstrap the bike, slowly walk it backwards, and it will begin to lean. Hold grip tightly to stabilze it, and over the about 4 grueling and humiliating seconds, the bike will pull smoothly out of the grip, falling with a plonk, and you will be left staring at the grip still in your hand. While the pretty girl laughs at you. That's always been the most reliable way to remove a handgrip for me. | ||

do you have an air compressor? the air nozzle slipped inside the grip will push the handgrip right off and it will also help slide one back on. simple and easy trick! | ||

Boy long ago, we used gasoline for installation lube. When it evaporated the grip would be tight. When's the last time you used a big dish of gas for cleaning solvent and a paint brush for washing parts? Used to be normal. Sorry I digress... | ||

Lmao!!! That's too funny..heck now I know to buy a air compressor. The way I did it I took a surgical knife and lightly cut it on top n slowly cut it all the way at the end and split it open with my hands. Took me 10 mns to replace. | ||

oh yeah that air compressor in the corner that runs all kinds of air tools does more than just make noise...as a kid at a bicycle shop I watched a guy swap grips on a bike with one, no knife, no scraper, no cutting or tearing...just air and about 20 seconds per grip... filed that little nugget of information away to be used later...I was apparently easily impressed as a 9 yr old...... but I have used that trick more times than I can count! | ||

Owned bicycle shops for many years. Air to remove and hairspray and air to install. Hairspray lubes and evaporates with air. Holds good just like the ads say. SteveH | ||

I use dishwashing soap to install. It dries super sticky. I have factory grips on the M2 with some big foamy wraps over them ( my fingers are too long for the factory grips ) Reepicheap - best laugh of the day!  | ||

Windex to remove / soapy water to install... Everyone has a trick I guess. | ||

carb cleaner or hairspray to install both dry and stick the grip to the bar. | ||
