How far should the spring for the primary shoe go in? I can only get the spring in there about 3/16ths of an inch, and when the shoe is on, the spring is not straight out but exits at a downward angle. Furthermore, it seems to me that this is keeping me from putting the back as far as it should go. Any advice? |

All the way in. You'll struggle until you learn the trick and then it will seem easy! Sorry, but without it sitting in front if me, I can't help. |

The trick is more about finessing it, or should I take a pair of pliers or a hammer and force it in? |

Finesse. Spring tools may help, but forcing will damage. I wish someone who had done this recently would chime in. I know it was a PIA, but I don't remember the easy way it went in when I figured it out. |

Yeah the spring should be all the way in. Make sure you have the correct end of the spring going into the shoe. If I remember correctly, the last time I did mine about 3-4 months ago. I used needle nose pliers underneath to pull the spring down whilst pushing the shoe into place. |
